Popular Post NavyWessex
Hi all, I had originally intended to post these builds separately, but given there are 5 completed kits, it seemed only sensible to group under one header. I will try to give as much detail about each project as possible. All kits were completed over a 6 week period. Alot of the kits are missing bits like aerials, which I will add at a later date. First up is Italeri's venerable 1/72 Westland Wessex HAS.3, built entirely from the box and painted using Hataka Orange line laquers, my first foray into this brand and I'm extremely impressed. I've had many horror experiences with painting yellow, but a base coat of Halfords grey primer, followed by Hataka Traffic white and Golden Yellow has given a really smooth finish after sanding with 8000grit micro mesh. Next up is Revells (Italeri tooled) Agusta Westland Merlin HC.3, converted to HC.4 standard as best as the kit allows. The parts required for the tail and rotor fold were taken from a donor Merlin HM.1 kit, also from Revell and many decals were raided from the spares box where possible. Finished with Vallejo Model Air for the best part. Following on is Amodels 1/72 Jetstream T.2, an interesting short run kit mainly built up of parts with no locator pins, vague fits or poor moulding. A subject I have wanted to build for some time and really the only available option. The kit took about 2 weeks to build in all, and despite not being complex, with a very simple cockpit design and no cabin interior detail, most of this was spent sanding, filling and smoothing; especially the engine and cockpit areas. The kit was finished in overall Hataka Traffic White and Tamiya Medium Grey for the underside. The kit decals for the blue cheat line are far too off colour, which is surprising given the colour call out is pretty spot on, so Xtradecals recently released Jetstream set was instead employed for any decals/roundels needing blue. Moreover, the kit clear parts for the cabin windows were nothing short of abysmal, so Deluxe Products Glu n' Glaze replaced these to great effect. Next up is Revells lovely 1/72 Sea King AEW up converted to ASAC.7 spec as best as possible. I have built a number of these kits which just fall together, the surface detail is excellent and generally accurate and despite the sponsons being on the small side, the final result in my opinion is nicer than the new Airfix tooling, which is a little over complicated with far too many seam lines to fill to make up the fuselage. Finished largely out of the box using Tamiya Medium Sea Grey (RAF), decals are a combination of kit and from an Xtradecal set. Last up is this little gem of a kit from Hobbyboss, the Lynx HMA.8. Again, finished entirely out of the box using Tamiya Medium Sea Grey (RAF) and kit decals, as with all kits from above, the rotor heads ahve been manually adjusted to enable the blades to fold. The height of the rotorhead was adjusted considerably, as the kit in standard form sits far too high and other than the inaccurate door rails, is a nice addition to the 1/72 Lynx family. Many thanks for looking. Edited November 19, 2021 by NavyWessex

Remus389
Very nice choppers, I like the folding rotor, it's very smart, doesn't take up so much space in your display area. 👍

Alan P
Superb quality builds. The folded Merlin looks particularly good, but the used look of the Sea King vs the clean, sharp appearance of the Jetstream show your versatility and eye for a realistic finish. Really well done 👏👏👏

Next time though! Many thanks for all the positive comments, they're much appreciated!
TEXANTOMCAT
Fair plate chap- I built mine without the set but have another to build which I will use it for- they are complete one piece front engine/nacelles and jet pipes soooo much easier than the two part bits Amodel give you! lovely build on the stream and paint job👍
