What about the Battles in Brussels and Ottawa - are they better representations?

I don't know about the one in Ottawa, but the one in Brussels is as far as I know a complete aircraft. The Hendon one has the wings from a Canadan target tug. I would love to have a good look at R3950's top wings.

I’m not saying that the MAPS one isn’t a good representation- the team is superb and corrected a lot of errors when the bitsa was put together- IMHO they made a superb job. The Brussels one is ex Strathalan  I think  but ex Canada. I suspect both it and the Canadian example albeit a trainer are more ‘original’

When visiting the Brussels museum, I never found their Battle in a good spot for photographing it from above; either underneath the Bollingbroke/Blenheim and Mosquito or underneath a balcony.   I checked my pictures from back then when it was possible to take photos with flash there - on my last visit I got a stern talking to for taking pictures with flash in the courtyard to lighten the shadows on a tank partially in the sun.

The Brussels Battle photos I found on my harddrive can be downloaded:

Thank you so much for sharing them.  DSC_5006 is just the ticket.  I was making a set of drawings based on Merrick's plans with additions from photos and Huntley's notes.  It was real rivet counting stuff showing the order of assembly and all that - but alas lost the lot due a combination of computer trouble and flooding.

Is this still worth having on back order as we are nearing the latest date from the company of Xmas (I'd assumed Xmas 2023) and no new updates I can find regarding its eventual release?

Just hope they don't keep Santa and his followers waiting much longer!

Can you give a good explanation why you shouldn't?

  • Homebee changed the title to 1/72 - Fairey Battle Mk.I by FRROM - 3D renders+sprues design+box art+decals+schemes - release in January 2024 ?

So January it is then!

Presumably January 2024 although I'm not holding my breath or my wallet but it will come as a nice surprise when it eventually appears.

No point in deleting it from my backorder I know but just frustrated that they keep making promises and then utterly failing to deliver.

Look on the bright side Pat, if it doesn't show up next month, you'll be no worse off than you are now, but if it does show up, you'll be able to treat yourself too a frisson of pure joy. Now ponder this, what if it doesn't show up till Feb 2nd, where are we on that? ;) :D

Given the fact that the kit is being tooled in the Ukraine, which is still suffering from what is effectively a sustained bombing campaign at the hands of the Russians, I am prepared to cut them quite a bit of slack.

I am just thankful I am not a serious railway modeller, where even from the major companies, there are substantial waits between announcement and delivery.

Steve,

Fair point and I also didn't realise it is coming from Ukraine who have far more important issues to deal with than a bit of plastic.

I'll just be happy when it eventually arrives so now trying to throw off my seasonal 'Grinch' mind set and be far more reasonable going forward!

I guess my underlying concern is that it will never appear, such as the SH Mosquito, but as they've got this far based upon the sprue shots they have shared it is just a question of 'when' and not 'if'.

Don't want to get banned from the Forum as I know it has to be apolitical and the moderators are quite rightly enforcing and deleting any such comments, but still buying stuff from Russia seems rather odd even if is top quality.

Just hope From Azur and Ukraine manage to dodge the missiles coming their way and remain safe and free.

Is Azur not tooled by Special Hobby in the Czech Republic?

I believe Special Hobby high pressure injection moulds are produced in Ukraine not Czech Republic. I may be wrong though.

At least this Fairey Battle is tooled in Ukraine, that has been confirmed by Azur Fromm and SH. There were some speculation about SH 1/72 Bf 109 Emil, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's from Ukraine. The parts have this strange surface texture, a bit like 3D printed parts. I just built a Dora Wings Lysander, and the parts were a bit similar, although the texture wasn't as pronounced.

I think it's just some SH kits being tooled in Ukraine. Anyway according to scalemates site 2023 was record high for SH in terms of kit releases. I doubt it could be possible if all their toolings are made in Ukraine.

Most of them seem to be just re-releases, new tool kits of them are only F-84F  and Super Mystere B2 (for Azur Fromm). Special Hobby is one of the few manufacturers that release photographs of their moulds and machinery, so they definitely tool most of their kit themselves.

Re-releases still require molding more sprues so very likely the access to the machinery is pretty much secure with low logistical obstacles. And yes given they regularly publish metal forms photoes - I think at least most of the tooling is done in Czech Republic.

Release was March '24. It’s slipped to April. :waiting:

Still, I’d rather it was late and good. I can wait.

I'm with you on this.  Hopefully we'll get it before The Few GB later this year so I can build a Belgian aircraft.  But it's not like I don't have other options in The Stash.  :)
