Possible banner.   Not sure why Pepé Le Pew popped into mind, but adds some fun.   Can be removed and whatever else, let me know.

That's great, thanks Jack!

What do the collective think?

Do we keep Pepé Le Pew?

Concerning Pepé, I was thinking after the fact maybe a character that is more synonymous with the region the GB is focused on, even specifically just Italy since that is the origin of this Group Build?  Topo Gigo or Pulcinella?

Specifically Italia: I suggest the young Ornella Muti  😎

Sorry, I've been neglecting this and I owe an apology to @JackG for not responding sooner on this.  Jack, as Pepé Le Pew isn't indigenous to the region I agree that a character that's more synonymous with the region would be better, I've taken a look at your two alternative suggestions and while Topo Gigio is a bit cutesy he is at least not menacing like Pulcinella so maybe Topo would be better than Pepé, could you make that change please?

But I don't know yet wich aircraft I will represent ..

Best Regards

Patrice

Good choice of subject Patrice, I had toyed with the idea of an Italy based Mitchell so I'm glad you've proposed doing this one.

@Wez hello, and yes will take another look at the badge.  Not that much trouble as all the elements are saved as separate objects in a special work file, so just a matter of removing Pepe  and adding another character.

There was mention earlier of an Italian actress though admittedly not familier with her.   Another passed away yesterday, Gina Lollobrigida.  Would we want to pay homage to her or nix the idea entirely of a movie actor?

regards,

Jack

Whilst I'm happy to pay tribute to "La Lollo", I get that some people may feel differently so maybe not a movie actor.

At the moment the list of countries is at a dozen and have incorporated each of their flags into the planned GB badge.   Incidentally, it will not be that quick a badge fix as just realized the saved files are on a hard disk that failed over the holidays.

@Tim R-T-C eludes to an important point that requires clarification.   Is the theme just subjects from the list of countries named, or can include operations in this map region from other non southern European countries?

No rush on the banner Jack, when you can get around to it will be soon enough.

@Tim R-T-C, I had posted this before but it gets lost as the thread moves on, so...

Eligible subjects can come from:

Portugal

Spain

Gibraltar

France (from the following regions: Occitaine, Provence-Alpes-Côte D'Azur and of course, Corse (Corsica),

Monaco

Italy (including all of the islands)

Malta

Slovenia

Croatia

Bosnia-Herzegovina

Montenegro

Yugoslavia pre break up

Albania

Greece

Cyprus

Subjects from antiquity from these countries are allowed.

Equipment from countries outside of this area that were permanently based there (e.g. 56 Sqn RAF on Lightnings were based in Cyprus so that's acceptable, but 56 Sqn RAF with Phantoms only went there on detachment e.g. APC, so that wouldn't be acceptable).  Eligible subjects also include wartime rotations such as the RAF Sqns or the RN Submarines based in Malta or any ship assigned to Force H in Gibraltar.

Cars raced in the Monaco GP would be acceptable too.

Does this help?

Thanks, maybe worth adding to the first post of the thread as well, just to help lure in wayward sailors passing by 😁

Looks a like a few more flags to add to the banner -  Gibraltar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and the earlier Yugoslavian flag.

Subject choice is much clearer now,   I was thinking something from the Austro-Hungarian empire.  They did have a section of land touching the Adriatic coast, which is present day a trio of countries already on the GB listing (Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina).   I know some units were raised from Slovenes and likely fought on the Italian front.    There is also the seaplane pilot ace Gottfried Freiherr von Banfield that operated over the Adriatic,   Is this subject viable?

Jack

IIRC the A-H primary seaplane base was at Trieste. The KuK Kreigsmarine also operated land planes such as the Phonix D.I fighters - they weren't engaged with the inland fighting, so could they be eligible?

Cheers,

Mark

I've updated the first post of this thread with the eligible locations.

Subjects from the Austro-Hungarian Empire are eligible provided they are based in locations which are now coastal states (e.g. (Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina).

Does that help everyone out?

I'll join in this GB, not sure what with yet but there's a broad scope so I'll figure something out.

Maybe an Albanian MiG/Shenyang

Sounds like a good choice Luke, welcome along.

So would this count if it were built in the markings of a unit stationed in Italy??

Covered by:

As WW2 air war in the Mediterranean is one of my favourite subjects, I can't just pass this beautiful boxart from somewhere in the Greek islands. It's just as beautiful as the Eduard kit it houses, and makes me think... :hmmm:

As long as you can prove it was based in the appropriate geographical location, that's fine!

According to excellent WW2.dk website, II Gruppe of Zerstörergeschwader 76 was based at Argos, Greece, in May-June 1941. A part of its 4. Staffel was detached to Iraq, and outside of this GB's area, but the M8+_P:s were not. I'm still planning to build a Spitfire with stars and bars in this GB, and the Bf 110:s will most likely wait for their turn in 2024. There are now three four GB proposals good for them: Eduard, V-engine, Escorts and Axis&Co. Twins. I'm sure the first one, at least, will go through.

But the boxart is a beauty! V-P

EDIT: Added the fourth 2024 GB proposal, as the Bf 110:s had inverted Daimler-Benz V-engines
