FrankJ
Almost finished Revell Series 3 Land rover. Should I finish paintwork with gloss or matte varnish (using Pledge Revive It for gloss) or no varnish at all? Opinions welcome.
Marco F.
Keep in mind, the 1:1 Land Rovers show only a deep gloss when they are wet Marco F
Caerbannog
Hmmm... even factory fresh they appeared less shiny than average cars. You could use a gloss color if you aim for a very new LR look but surely no clear coat.
Alan R
I'll be honest, I have never seen a 'proper' Landy with a shiny finish. I suggest a satin finish. Maybe mix the Tamiya Gloss and Matt clears? Cheers, Alan. Edited November 15, 2021 by Alan R Keyboard finger trouble... :)
veg
Every Land Rover my dad owned 88 and 20 90’s were more satin than gloss.
PatW
Well they were for farmers only! Our eldest son had a lightweight paratrooper short-wheelbase Lanny it was never shiny from the start!
malpaso
Land Rover used to have a very shiny polished aluminium SIII SWB on display at Motor Shows in the 80s! I guess it was the same one now at Gaydon. https://flic.kr/p/25oVD5n (link only as not my photo)
Natter
This was taken last week on the day I finally took it out of the garage after almost a year. The paint is original and has been T-Cut back to remove the oxidation, then given a polish with Mer. They came out of the factory without any clear-coat, just the colour paint, so a gloss clear coat would look too shiny. IMHO (and it is just a HO) it would probably look about right with a satin finish, be that varnish or just the paint to achieve the finish.
