Hi

They are comming quite nice with the decals on.

The decals made by our friend Luis with the Horseshoes superimposed over a 4 leaf clover for the wheels cover is a nice detail.

Our friend Luis is going to do the decals to add the inscription to the white bomb.

My father has started 3 more kits

That is a very interesting project, I must say.

Can I ask one question though?

Please do not take it the wrong way, you are of course entitled to do as you please, and should do as you see fit and is fun for you, but.. why?

You mention these are part of a larger project.. ?

Is this for an exhibition or something?

No problema at all. Yes, this is just a small part of our collection and even smaller comparing with our idea.

I shall try to give you a brief introduction.

My father began his collection of British warplanes models in 1/72 scale when he was fourteen. He read a wartime story involving the De Havilland DH89 Mosquito, and both the story and the aircraft impressed him greatly. It is then when his passion for RAF modelling started, and it eventually developed to what it is today.

20 years ago he re started the modelling but with a better standard.

Right now we have 1170 models done with the new standard (painted with airbrush, etc). Our goal is to build All the aircraft types that flew with the Royal Air Force, the Fleet Air Arm and all the Commonwealth (Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Rhodesia, etc.) in the time frame between 1937 and 1947, in all major versions (including field modifications, different or special markings, different armaments, different scheme colour camouflage, etc.) which were used in all the operational theatres or special operations. And to include also Lend-Lease and captured enemy types under British markings. We also try to include in each series the aircraft which were flown by Ango Argentine pilots, most of them had very particular nose arts”

Just to give you an idea about our aproach to the hobby please find below the steps we take behind each series.

We discuss about the following projects (series) taking into account these points:

  • The information available (books, magazines, photos, etc.)
  • Numbers of kits availables in our stock
  • Size of the models due to lack of physical space in our display cabinets

After selecting the aircraft to be represented as a sub collection or series we following steps:

  • Do the selection of each aircraft to be included in the series in order to achive our goal (different schemes, markings, etc).
  • I ask for help to our friends in Uk, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc in order to obtain information + photos which cannot be found in the common books or publications.
  • Many of the models done cannot be even thinking without their support.
  • Make the numbers of kits to be needed and then look out the way to obtain them at low cost.
  • Make a summary of each aircraft  with a detail of the things that must be in mind for building the models (modification of the original        kit, colours, markings, etc

As you could see we do not do the kits OOB but we really try to represent each aircrafts with all the different camos, versions, markings, armaments, etc.We do not build a model without a photo. We have made mistakes but always try to do our best in terms of research.

For example. We started the P40 project on Mach 2021 and after a year we selected 126 models. Right now I am doing the research for the next project (Fairey Fulmar). I have selected aprox. 22 models to be done. I have also started to put all the information available together for the following project which will deal with the Tiger Moth.

Also we really try not make any model without at least with one photo. We did it in 5 cases out of the 1200 models done so far.

Many many hystorians and modellers have been helping us by sharing with us their knolwedge, personal files and their time which I highly appreciated.

Also our friend Luis make all the special decals that we need for each series. In the P40 case our request was demanding to say less.

What an amazing project and the overall concept is astounding.

I am picking up one used P40 later this week and hope to some day do an RCAF, maybe the one that shot down some fugo balloons or the Japanese Rufe (our only air victory domestically, apparently!)

Do you still plan to do tiger moths? I have a couple I picked up at a show last month and @Zephyr91 and I planned to do them in RCAF training livery I believe.

Hi David

Thank you very much for your comments.. You can see the final photos here:

That would be great. There are many RCAF P40 to be done.

Yes. My father is building two Dornier Do 24, one in RAF markings and one in RAAF markings while I finish the research on the B26 project. I have also started to find and select information for the Tiger Moth series.

Cheers

Santiago
