1/32 Trumpeter BF-109 K4

Recommended Posts

Hello again.

I may as well put a few up today for inspection as I got some free time.

This time it’s my attempt at a K4. Because of the situation of Germany at the time these things went into production, it really was a mix bag when it came to camo schemes and colours used. The famed hallmark of German quality and perfectionism went out the window and gave way to rushed-out-the-factory-door exercises in desperation. Might have something to do with servers nations bombing them day and night. They didn’t even bother painting the undersides in some cases, and the mismatched panels made it painfully obvious that parts were produced all over the country side.

here was my reference material..

Here’s what I came up with…

I recently entered this build in a competition and to my surprise it actually won a couple categories.

When I opened the kit, I promptly threw away the rubber tires and opted for a set of barracudas. I used an AIMS decal sheet and hgw seatbelts.

As for the colours I tormented my poor soul over trying to get it right. I mixed and matched and brewed and tested about 20-30 combinations to get an RLM 81 brown violet that I liked. I’m sure I own every brand ever that produces this colour, and NONE of them are alike or any close to the shade I had in mind. The different manufacturers had a different take on that colour, and Messerschmitt as far as I can tell had an actual pinkish brown colour that was applied to some 109s. That or the paint oxidised that way for being so crap. The mix I came up with was a 50/50 blend of mig ammo rlm 81 (may as well be magenta) and flat earth of the same brand to bring it back to brown. I’m happy with result.

You spent a lot of work wich payed off 100%. You can really happy with the result. The colors are very convincing in my eyes. Meanwhile every brand had a different interpretation of the tones. So meanwhile I also mix the most of the colors. So you did justice to your 109. It looks amazing.

Congratulations to your Awards.

All the best
