billn53
Wisconsin native Howard A. Morey, after learning how to fly, bought a Curtiss JN-4 "Jenny" and began barnstorming. In 1926 he opened Pennco Field (later renamed Royal Airport) just south of Madison, where I now live. That was the beginning of an illustrious aviation career, which culminated in his becoming President and General Manager of Wisconsin/North Central Airlines. More details on Howard Morey's career can be found in my WIP: The subject of this build is Morey's first airplane, the "Pennco Flyer": But, enough history. Let's see how this old Lindberg kit turned out! Some detail shots... I built the cockpit interior from scratch: I detailed visible parts of the engine & exhausts, hand-carved the propeller from laminated wood, and replaced the kit wheels with Eduard photoetch wire wheels: U I re-built the turtleback behind the cockpit to better show the wood stringers that are visible in photos: I've done a small amount of rigging in the past -- nowhere near what was involved with this build: The rigging is from Infini Model, and the tubes simulating turnbuckles are from Bob's Buckles: The Pennco Flyer's markings were home made and laser printed on clear decal paper: I was lucky to find a 1/48 scale 1926 Ford Model T kit on e-Bay, which motivated me to create a small diorama for my Jenny. I've titled this, "It Pays to Advertise" because of the numerous ads that Morey's Jenny carried: That about wraps it up. I hope you've enjoyed reading through this RFI as much as I enjoyed building this kit! Thanks to everyone who followed my WIP, giving helpful advise and encouragement along the way! 56

bigbadbadge
What a lovely, nay beautiful model, your WIP was really enjoyable and inspirational too. All your additional details and scratch work has taken this to an amazing level. The car and people in the diorama really add to this and the atmospheric black and white photos add a great atmosphere too. The last one on your WIP is a beauty. I had to look at the first photo on this RFI as I wasn't sure if it was your model or the real thing, but I see the ladder on the side, so now can see it is of ghe real Aircraft your model is that good it would be difficult to tell. Really great work. Chris

Remus389
That's how one imagines an old biplane, with bicycle landing gear. An the old T-Ford just adds to the feeling. 🙂👍

When I started, I had fears that I wouldn’t be able to pull this off. I owe a special thanks to Clive, as it was his beautiful remake of Lindberg’s Jenny that inspired me in the first place! 1

AliGauld
This has turned out so beautifully. I still struggle to believe that it's a model and not the real thing. Exquisite. Cheers, Alistair

Fastcat
Brilliant! You've managed to capture that most difficult of things - the spirit of the subject. Well done doesn't do it justice. Dave
Toryu
That's one fine model - beautifully planned and executed! It looks so real, you can see it take off and wobble along. The reversed slogan on the wing underside is the cream on the cake. Very inspirational build!
