Bertie McBoatface
That's gorgeous. I really like the painting. Weathering and staining look great.

kapam
I must say, being something of a Dauntless & Battle-of-Midway fan, I'd be more than proud to have that in my display case! All the weathering and staining looks spot-on to me! Inspiring indeed! Maybe it's time to move my Hasegawa 1/72 twin-kit to the top of the pile. 🤔

Go ahead, but check the New SBD3 fro Flyhawk in 72nd scale, a real killer!
72modeler
Very nice SBD! Nicely weathered, and the red surrounded national insignia is seldom seen on a Dauntless build, but really stands out, as do the fake gun ports in the wings! Well done! Leander65
This is my second post so please forgive me if this is forum social error by asking a question in someone else’s post. I am working on a SBD-5 from Academy, the instrument panel is clear plastic and the painting instructions are not clear to me. My guess/conclusion from other models I’ve done is that the panel should be black. It looks like yours is. Am I reaching the right conclusion? Thanks, and amazing job on yours. Yes it is and Bert Kinzey book on the subject carries very nice color pictures for the details. Cheers.

The dash 5 was an improvement over the dash 3 and used an aerial radar for the hunt of japanese ships. Cleaning the shelf of doom I found the old but good Accurate Miniature which I updated with Master 30 calibers, ultracast seats and a full riveting. The plane is from the "Lexington" during the operations against the Gilberts islands in 43. Fake MG openings were painted on the wing leading edges to lure the Japanese. This time I have used decals as the big fuselage stars with the red surround are quite impossible to do with masks due to the fuselage curve, a real problem with vinyl.
