Old Mossies the new tool Airfix is joining.........

Recommended Posts

Like so many of you, the Mosquito in all it's various iterations of color and equipment has been THE favorite since my early childhood.

With all the excitement about the new Airfix Mosquito, I thought it would be fun to show what our new Airfix build will be joining on the shelf.

I hope everyone follows on and posts their Mosquito collection as there are so many of you that are as passionate about this aircraft as I am and we'd love to see your builds.

My son's build of the old Monogram 1/48.

Some superb Mossies on here that show that the type has been well catered for by the world's model companies. Here's what I still reckon takes some beating, the Tamiya 1/72 offering converted into a PR.34.

Sweet, keep 'em coming !!

Canberraman, I agree, the Tamiya offering I feel is the high-water mark for 1/72 scale. Great to see a Tintin in the mix, hoping for more.

Robin, you're right on the FROG nacelles, a bit anemic and the canopy really would look much more at home on a Ju88 or something.

Way to go Ratch ! I mentioned my childhood recollection and the all black Mossie is it. Funnily enough I don't have one in the collection but will fix that Dec.1st. I'm heading up a "Twins Group Build" over on Hyperscale, (you're all welcome of course..) and expect to fill several missing Mossie spots during that GB. The all black will be filled by DD750 and because it's from my early childhood, proper modeling etiquette dictates it can only be filled by the old Airfix FBVI.

Thanks everyone, I'm sure you all are enjoying this as much as I am. KEEP POSTING !!!!

Some lovely Mossie's here! Congradulations!

Well, I'm in for 2. They aren't 1/72, but they are old Airfix 1/48 kits.

... with Aviaeology decals, 418 Sqdn.

Mossie 1

... and a scratch built conversion to a Tse Tse (also Airfix 1/48)

Great stuff everyone !!

The Tamiya kits are beautiful, I have one, (maybe 2?) in 1/72 scale and they are little jewels.

I wish I could do 1/48 but I just don't have the space.

If nothing else at all comes from this series of posts, it proves beyond a doubt that you guys can build the maligned Airfix 1/48 scale kit into a beautiful, rugged looking Mossie !!!

I was jokingly told on another website if I did this conversion, I would be banned from the forum.....

And rightly so! 😂

I recently finished a 1/32 Revell Mosquito converted to an FB.VI:

tn_Mosquito VI (91)

Also have an HKM B.XVI which is planned to be a PR.XVI. Love the aircraft and plan to make a few more!

@Alan P, Those Revell Mossies are a very cost effective way to get some big 1/32 scale birds on the shelf.

I have 3 planed, the B-IV, NF-MkII, BXVI. All with lots of resin of course...

Tamiya 1:72 NF XIII / XVII pretending to be a NF XIX from 68 sqn. I wasn't able to find the code letter for this aircraft so that's why it's missing. I got to really like the bull nose mossies during this build - they look rather predatory.

Here are my sole two, Mossies in my collection. Both Tamiya and 1/72nd. Built these a few years ago now.

Standard MK.VI. straight from the box. Have been thinking of re working this one and decorating it with Aviaeology decals as a RCAF one.

Tamiya Mk.IV finished as Don Mc Vicars racer CF-FZG.  Whiskey Jack/ Thunderbird Decals used. No mods to speak of.

I do have a couple more in my stash, one of each again, with plans to the the FB 6 as a survey aircraft in Canada and not sure about the B.IV yet. One day....

Some where, I have pics of my 1/48th builds but don't have the models any more. I'll post pics when I find them.

I would love to do a Canadian aircraft but I don't know how to print my own decals. Yet another skill set I have not mastered.
