curiouslysophie
Hi everyone, Just wondering if I could tap the hive mind for some reference shots of land-based Birdcage Corsairs, preferably from Guadalcanal/Solomon Islands. I am at the weathering stage of my 1/32 Tamiya one, and most of the shots of the undersides I could find were from carrier based planes. Thanks for any help! I really want to get the dirty, beaten up look, but with a good level of accuracy. Cheers, Sophie Edited October 21, 2021 by curiouslysophie Apparently I can’t spell, lol
112 Squadron
You may try to browse these databases for suitable photos: https://www.worldwarphotos.info/gallery/usa/aircrafts-2-3/f4u-corsair/ https://www.worldwarphotos.info/gallery/usa/aircrafts-2-3/f4u/
FG2Si
It may be worth checking out Fundekals' website as their instructions are downloadable and have photos of several land based Corsairs. https://fundekals.net/1-32-scale/ They're a great read if you're Corsair fan. 72modeler
You should get a copy of Aircraft Pictorial No. 7, F4U-1 Corsair, Part 1, by Dana Bell. By far the best single reference source on Birdcage Corsairs. Mike
curiouslysophie
Thank you for the advice! Those are all good sources. getting shots of the underside of aircraft from the war is always a challenge. I think I have enough I can estimate the weathering patterns with some artistic license. Hopefully I should have the oil paint rendering done this weekend. Just need to scratch the canopy fittings after that.
