London Lady saying hello!

Hi! I’m Sophie. Thought I’d join up and introduce myself. :)

I am an archaeologist who specialises in WWII, I hail from London, and I am a bit of a history buff.

I have been building models since I was about 8 but fell out of the hobby as I got older. Got back into the hobby about a decade ago, and though I primarily build 1/32 WWII aircraft, I do enjoy vehicles, and been trying my hand at ships recently too. I also used to do a few sci-fi models in to past too.

Most of my models are fictional vehicles, with a sort of ‘historical plausibility’ about them, and I am currently planning a Luft ‘46 project.

I don’t think my skills are the best, and I often don’t show my finished work off as I think some of the builders out there far outstrip me in skill, but I hope I can share a few with you guys as I get better. I’ll stick a couple of pics of my earlier work down below.

Hope to chat to you all soon!

Sophie

Greetings from western Canada and welcome to the forum.

I think your modelling skills look great, especially compared to anything I've ever done.

Archeology! My second most favourite subject next to aircraft.

Hello Sophie,

Beautiful finish on your builds. Also the 1:1 rotatory phone. Don't see many of those these days.

Welcome to the forum. Great bunch of folks here. Looking forward to your builds

All The Best,

Ron VanDerwarker

Yes indeed, Sophie, some of the builders out there surpass your skills.

If you'd kindly point them out to us right now I'd be grateful. Because you've set a high standard based on those  models. The people who are better than you must be worth seeing.

Put those models up on RFI right now.

Seriously though. By all means  show your  models. I particularly like the P47.

Thank you all for such a warm welcome! I’m glad you like my builds :) I will definitely show my builds more, I am working on improving my photography to better catch them.

I’m currently working on Tamiya’s excellent Birdcage Corsair, which is just hitting the weathering stage, and I am starting the Zoukei Mura Do 335 soon, as well as a 1/350 Tribal Class Destroyer.

I’m looking forward to chatting here more!

     Ah, a Tribal, now we're talking! 👍

Gidday Sophie and welcome aboard. I guess your other models don't look too bad. You might have gathered that I'm an avid model ship fan. 🙂 Actually, your aircraft models are very good, that silver paint especially.

BTW, what's that archaic-looking black thing in the third photo down, the one with the rings with holes in them? 🤔😁

Regards, Jeff.

Hi Sophie!

Welcome aboard! Britmodeller is a great place to be.

I like this: "I don’t think my skills are the best, and I often don’t show my finished work off as I think some of the builders out there far outstrip me in skill".......

Then produces photos of a collection of models so good as to make me want to give up and take up knitting instead! 🤣

Steve.

@curiouslysophie don’t make me laugh. If this is an example of your work, as @fightersweep says. I’ll take up knitting. Those aircraft look stunning, I used to really struggle with bare metal finish, you have mastered it.
Beware of starting to build ships, I did a while ago and haven’t build an Aircraft or AFV since.
A warm welcome, from a not so warm West Country. I look forward to following your work.

Hasn't gone un-noticed that Weston is back to it's grey, damp and miserable self today. 🤨

It is really perfect what you do Sophie.

You are not alone, as a woman.

My wife is eager for modelling too over 25 years.

She is Ruth on the forum.

She is better than I.

Wellcome onboard.

......archaeologist who specialises in WWII.....

This makes me curious!

Happy modelling
