Normally by this time of year there are at least half a dozen threads running on this topic- I couldn't find one so I thought I'd start it!

 

Revised tools/new markings 

 

1/72 Douglas AC-47 'Spooky' (?) 

1/72 Blackburn Buccaneer - Gulf War issue?

1/72 Beaufort & Mossie second boxings

1/72 Vulcan XH558/Black Buck 

 

1/48 - Tiger Moth 'Civilian' or 'Wartime' or 'Foreign Users' or floatplane?

Will the cancelled Sea Vixen re-release happen this year? 

 

Now 'last year' was Postwar heavy and mainly jets so perhaps a return to WW2?

1/72 Fairey Battle/Firefly

1/72 P-51B/C ...

1/72 Hampden (is there enough of it at Cosford to work from?)

 

1/72 Anson - (how about a C.21/ XIX) or even in 1/48...

1/72 Luftwaffe Ground set (as they have done the RAF and US already) which could then be combined with the Dornier 17 or HE111 aircraft kits in a combo box (like the Lanc and B17)  OR

1/72 V Bomber Support Set... 

 

But they need a biggie as well so:

 

1/72 Lincoln - again there was the rumour going around it had been measured up...?

 

In 1/48 

Perhaps the Battle instead of 1/72 or maybe a Lysander - they have worked with ARCO before....

1/72 Islander 

Maybe a reissue of the Capri or Escort following the recent Beach Buggy and expected Jag?

To be honest 3 aircraft should be their priority

I keep mentioning it in the vain hope, but I’d love to see a new 1/72 Lysander. There’s a couple flying on the UK circuit now and Airfix have already released two kits of the Lizzie. 
Now, while I’m very fond of the old Matchbox kit, that’s probably mostly nostalgia in action and the prices they fetch on eBay means there’s likely a good market opportunity for a decent kit. From what I have seen, the Dora Wings effort doesn’t qualify, being, on all accounts a pig to make and way too expensive. 
It shouldn’t take much to get all the main variants and with the wide variety of operators and marking, should prove a popular subject. I’d buy a metric shed-load. 
 

Another subject I’m hoping for is a 1/72 Javelin. Having no interest whatsoever in 1/48, having to make do with what’s available galls considerably. I posit that a 1/72 Javelin would be more attractive to the casual buyer than the larger scale kit due to the lower price. And again, while I wouldn’t buy a single 1/48 Javelin, I would buy a good many 1/72 kits. I already have seven Javelins in the stash.

 

Other kits I would be very happy to see are an Anson, Jaguar, bomber canopy Canberra, F-84F and F-86A.

I’d love to see a series of 1/72 Javelins. They would fit the current post war/Cold War trend very well. Unfortunately not too much choice in camouflage options, but several bright squadron markings. There are extant air frames in the UK which could be measured also.

Zero interest in 1/48 so, I wouldn't bother with any of these. New 1/72 Jag would be nice though! 😉

As for the rest, I'd hope for ;

Vintage Classic SRN-1. 

Looking at the money Hornby have thrown at new projects on the railway front ( Enough permutations of APT stock to make a full 7 or 14 car set, some weird and wonderful Gresley one offs etc) not sure how much will be left in the cupboard for Airfix. My guess would be  another Mosquito and Beaufort boxing towards the end of 2022 early 2023, some re issues and not much else and I think they will play for safety, so replacing something in the back catalogue that people have heard of. Sorry to be pessimistic, but I still don't think Hornby Hobbies have a lot of cash to throw about. 

I am, off course, the first person to be delighted to be proved wrong.

I'm happy to say that Airfix have been working their way through my wish-list with each passing year. So switching to neutral prediction mode based vaguely on their pattern of subject choice in different "themes".  I could reasonably see announced for 2022:

I read that it was every five years or so. Maybe a re tread of the Mosquito is due. Are there ‘clues on the sprues’ of another version? Remember they gave us the car door and bubble top Typhoon.

Well, since @TEXANTOMCAT started it, I think we're due for re-tools of the following in the One True Scal:

 

B-24D or later versions

B-26 Marauder

(possibly) the Canberra B.2 or B.6.  

 

That puts only one British design out there, unfortunately, but I think high-quality, reasonably-priced WWII aircraft will always sell.

 

Like Texan Tomcat, I would love to see a V-Bomber support set, but I think it would sell only if some of the equipment were suitable for smaller tactical aircraft too, like a retooled Land Rover in real 1/72 scale, or a Hippo Refueler.  Still that's a lot of risk on Airfix's part.

 

Unfortunately, we won't see an Anson from Airfix, possibly ever, especially a postwar version.

 

 

Like @cngaero, I yearn for a Hastings, but Airfix simply won't bite on that: no guns or bombs.  We'll start barking up Valom's tree on that one.

 

Yes to a reissue of some more classics!  Doesn't matter what they are!

Seriously - a 1:48 Meteor T.7 would be the dog's. And, looking at the B.2 kit, a Vulcan B.1A is not beyond the realms of possibility - two new frames for the wings, replacing Frames A and B in the present release, plus a supplementary frame with the early tail cone and early undercarriage, and that's about it. Pretty well everything else is there now.

 

And a 1:72 Canberra B.2/B.20 with a properly shaped nose ...

When you think about iconic British aircraft - Spit, Lanc, Hurricane, Harrier, Vulcan etc- or rather the public's list who are perhaps unfamiliar with the Fairey Fruitbat - one is missing from a new tool perspective....would they consider a new tool Concorde...-  a replacement for the old 1/72 one which by repute is a pig of a kit?
