Are the cowling sides bulged or just a flat cylinder on the kit ?

The cowling has a slight bulge and aerodynamic shape. Breaking the cowl assembly into multiple parts was a very smart move by Eduard. It allowed them to capture the subtle shapes, and get the carb/oil cooler intake correct with the weld seam included! :elephant:

What's wrong with the wing, I haven't seen the plastic yet?

Got the info that the winge shall be as per Reisen 21, which is wrong. What's more, until September 1941 all Reisens 21 had almost the same wings as Reisens 11. The difference was folding wingtips.

That's strange since Eduard in their instructions for the 21, note that the difference between the wings was the folding tips. I'm guessing all that needs doing is filling little hinge plate panel lines. I wonder if this was something Eduard forgot to note in the instructions? (they've even drawn them in the instructions).

The difference was not only the folding wingtips. The air intake of cockpit "air conditioning" was oval and the panels covering cannon barrels had bigger, sqauare shaped, openings.

Do you have any photos of the Type 11 showing the gun panels?

The first photo in that topic https://ww2aircraft.net/forum/threads/a6m2-p-103.56815/

In the photo you can see the canon panel and early air intake. BTW, it's A6M2 Reisen 21, but built before September 1941 so it has early type of wings (except folded tips)

Thanks. I just dug out the Aero Detail book and it talks about these differences, though it wasn't clear about the cannon opening being square in their drawing as it looks like it was a panel line around the opening. This Hasegawa boxart shows the opening fairly well I guess.

Anyway fairly easy mods to make.

Just had a look at the kit instructions on the Eduard website.

No sign of having to do anything to the wingtips like filling or somesuch....

Yes I didn't see any reference to modifying the wing with any of the changes noted above in the instructions.

just did a quick compare to my Hasegawa Type 11 kit (09142)

Hase is lighter gray

- There  is no difference in the wingtips

Other than those little hinge covers on the Eduard kit, which will need filling for the 11.

Also, the air vent/opening is open to interpretation.

To me it looks like a diagonal tubular vent, that would make it look oval.

No it's definitely oval in shape compare to the very square later type.

In October, we release scale kit of the legendary A6M3 Zero Type 32, also known by the allied code name Hamp. It will include markings for five machines, covering the various markings and camouflage variations of this version of the Zero at different times in its combat career. With the Type 32, we continue our ZERO project, in which we cover all versions of this legendary aircraft. The A6M3 Zero Type 32 will be further included, along with the A6M3 Type 22, in the LIMITED edition kit, due for release this December. Right after the New Year we will continue the ZERO project with a float version of the A6M2-N Rufe.
