We continue to work on a new release for Q2 2023 in 1/48 scale, the iconic IJN A6M2-N Rufe. Panel lines and rivets are switched off on the 3D renders. The injection mold images are of the molds show work in progress, the molds are not finalized yet.

From the April distributors' leaflet:

"In April we will release five new kits as new items and one more that was released earlier and not available for some time. We can expect the biggest hit among them to be the premiere release of the Rufe kit in the 1/48 Limited Edition. As is customary with premiere kits released in this series, it is packaged in Dual Combo mode with two complete sets of moldings for two models of the Japanese A6M2-N Rufe floatplane fighter. The decals will offer the opportunity to build two of the eight Imperial Japanese Navy machines from the 1942 to 1944 battles of the Aleutians, Guadalcanal, Indonesia and Chichi- -jima. Although this floatplane was based on design of the A6M2 Zero carrier fighter, and many customers will probably expect it to be just another boxed version of the Zero, this is not the case. While the kit is also structurally based on the Zero, there is an entirely new set of moulds made for it, and the Rufe shares with the other Zero kits sprues for small parts and clear parts only."

There are 2 more markings not shown.

What is it with all these dual combo's? I can understand putting together two different versions in a box, but when they take a subject like the Rufe and double up I don't get it. Maybe they are just relying on a lot of people building stashes.

There are actually two versions of the Rufe.  :eat:

The first Rufes were assembled using parts provided by Mitsubishi. The kit contains both the shorter Mitsubishi spinner and back plate, and the longer Nakajima spinner with it's back plate. The other addition, that no other kit I'm aware of, is the little hump on the central float, which was the venting system for the gas tank that was located there. Some of the early A6M2-Ns also had folding wing tips, which Eduard will (gladly!) supply as an aftermarket 3D Printed item.

I realise that and it's not really any different to the Zero Zero Zero! boxing where you had an option of two props and spinners, different ailerons, some different parts in the cockpit but the point is they were all A6M2 Type 21's. I just would have thought mixing major types in a box would sell better. I'm sure Eduard will do this eventually but I get the impression they are just playing on first boxing will sell well no matter what it is and the Limited Edition of these boxings.

Just vote with your wallet and wait for them to release the individual kits, which usually happens within a couple of months at most.....

I wonder if they will have all the zero bits in from the landplane version in which case you can build a floatplane and land version?

Unfortunately not. It was stated in a recent issue of 'Eduard Info' that the Rufe floatplane had many small differences from the Zero and that it would be essentially a new kit. As far as I can remember the only common sprue is going to be the one with the cockpit and other 'detail parts'.

Only frame A that has all the clear parts and frame D with engine, cockpit parts, etc. are common to the land based aircraft. The other four frames are completely new tool and dedicated to the Rufe: Floats, Fuselage, Wings, Beaching Dolly.

There's no landing gear.

You can see the preview of the kit here:

Or perhaps for people like me who'll butcher one and leave the other one in the box to show what might have been possible.....

This thread is dedicated to Eduard's "Zero" family of kits in 1/48

Why post about the wildcat in this thread?

The wildcat has its own thread here:

Sometimes people make mistakes, but thanks for pointing this out!

That's a great way to look at it: Unbuilt = showing potential.

I can happily claim that I am myself illustrating a huge amount of potential by means of my growing mountain of un-built kits.

Though for some unknown reason my friends don't view it that way and mock me for it.

I need both a dolly and a new Rufe.

I'm homeless and lonely.

Don't mind them, they're just jealous! 🙂
