Another option would be to use pivot springs/Torsion springs, those little round springs with two tabs/arms, if you set them in opposition to each other on a pivot point, they will in effect allow you to lock the arms in any position that you like, but will still allow some movement, the problem here is fitting them in such a way that they are hidden, or hard to see, from looking at the pictures of your arms, and how they have been constructed, I'm not too sure of how easy that would be, there doesn't seem to be a lot of room to fit other things. I'm not sure that either of those are much help... Silent Running, a damn good film, very thought provoking Thanks. Some good ideas there. 🙂🥰 On 08/05/2022 at 05:51, Bigdave22014 said: How about using a tube and expanding the ends? Now, the pivot pin. Some of us require a diameter so we can scour our dwindling supplies of old style red Slater's Rod for your use. It’s always the way when learning from a book. Tech moves quicker in most cases. There will be a plethora of videos on you tube or the like that do use your version with no doubt lots of tid bits for you to glean. I’m not sure about the diameter as I’m currently in the land of moth. Soon I’ll be back a runnin’ , Soon.
The Spadgent
Well well. I have made a decision to only do one model at a time after doing a few multiple builds. The Tigers are complete so you know what that means! 😍 He’s back!!!!! All these bits need priming if I remember correctly. So a few squirts of Tamiya and we’re back on track.😇 Lots of little bits got coloured including the arm sections that had Vallejo Silver applied. Here we are with masking fluid in place, applied as before with a scourer. Masking for the arm sections. And the little spinny probe things. And a blast of real paint. im using Tamiya rubber black instead of black, black to allow for some variation. Here are all his bells and whistles. Masking fluid removed for chipping effect. 🤓 Everything is now under a protective gloss coat for filters and weathering. And of course that all important, number one. ☝️ Sorry Dewey has been away for a while but I’m glad to say he’s back with renewed vigour. I can’t imagine he’ll take too long to complete now. I only have the light cover to print. Most of the work now is sticking and painting. Thanks for sticking around while I’ve been away. All the best and as always. Happy modelling. Johnny.
The Spadgent
Double whammy!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I did a dry fit of the program cards and other accoutrements. Psst! I know they fitted. I trust the manufacturer. 🤓 Next up I drew out the numbers to attempt my very first painted on decal. (Actually that’s a lie) this will be my second. @giemme will be happy. 😉 Then traced onto masking tape. And away we go. And on the rear. Red for the grill. (I did white first to make sure it covered) And rubber for the big one. Masking off and not too bad over all. I did some extra chipping with a cocktail stick to keep everything looking worn. Then painted the last few panels before a gloss top coat. Just before bird I decided to do a wash. Bits first. The metals are coming out nice. Even the little claw. The vent with number looks about right. I added some grey Flory too. The main arm sheath. The legs. And of course, the main body. I actually like the look of that without knocking back. 🤔🤔 I’ll see what hours daylight brings. Well here’s where he stands as of tonight. Lots of post shading/ filters and assembly. Seems like I’m hitting the fun bit! 😍🤩 I’m enjoying this one at a time malarkey. Sorry @corsaircorp I know it’s your MO but it’s too much for me. More soon. Happy modelling your wonderful lot. Back in the Saddle
Great progress Johnny👍 The Tiggies are looking splendid too. I’ve never seen the liquid mask/scouring pad technique for chipping before; I’m filing that one away for future use…

The Spadgent
Good evening Britmodellers. 😀 Now let’s get one thing straight before I start this post. DON’T. I repeat DON’T EVER GET THESE TWO MIXED UP. 😣 Now I can begin. Yesterday was spent Daarn the smoke watching Pearl Jam in Hyde park. They were very good. in fact the whole day was amazing. 😎🤩 Today was rather more chilled with Photos taken for two of my RFIs and some work done on this little fella. The Flory has got knocked right back to where I was happy with the amount of dirt build up. I also added a little weathering powder but I’ll add more after a top coat. Looks good to me. 🤩 and tother side. 😎 dry fit legs. 😍 After knocking back the the bits and bobs I started gluing things on. Now the panel on the right hand side is a bit skewwhiff. It’s straight now but ooooh the stress. I used rocket glue initially. “Mistake” it stuck like stink!!! And soo quickly. No wiggle room at all. I think resin likes to get stuck with this stuff. After it had dried I spent a good twenty minutes with a super sharp blade slicing at it until it popped off. I glued it back on straight with Gators grip instead. 😅 I am happy with the weathering at this stage though. Now remember what these looked like. exactly how I wanted them. 😞 Now remember these from the start of the post? Well I top coated the body so I can do more filters and what not, luckily using gloss. Put him to one side and set up the legs. Grabbed a can and set about spraying. spraying light primer. 🙁🙁😩😩😫😫😤😤😡😡 “Oh dear” or words to that effect. 😖 making the executive decision to use thinner to try and rub off the spray and hoping that it didn’t make them worse. I eventually got to a point where they weren’t too bad. I used thinned red paint to get back some of the colour, then did a top coat. I’ll flory again to get some kind of tone back. They could have been a lot worse. But still. Nightmare. Right let’s put that behind us shall we. I painted some lead wire. So I could start threading this. First few in. I just thread through and bend at the back when I’m happy. Eventually we’re here. And the rear. I’ll glue that just in case. 😇 The grabber is glued with GG. And the arm is all bolted together. Try as I might to get it bending I couldn’t find a way to make it stiff. @CedB (steady) 😆 so I’m going with gluing it in position this time around. Here it is drying. I’ll be able to pose it before I put it in its final pose. 😇😍 Right that’s it. A bit of an eventful weekend overall. Hope you’re enjoying the build. More soon. And don’t forget. Don’t mix up your top coat and your primer. 😉 Johnny
hendie
ooooh ouch and deary deary me Johnny old boy. Disaster averted by the skin of one's teeth by the looks of things. Mike
Looks great Mixing up two paints is one of the reasons I always squirt a little bit of paint on the paper taped to the front of my spray booth, both to check I've picked up the correct airbrush, and to see if the paint's even flowing! it's a good way of reducing the number of potential screw-ups by 1. Still plenty of ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory though. Here's hoping that's your last 1

Pete in Lincs
I haven't looked in for a while. But I have now, and I'm still very impressed. It all looks ready for a remake of the film! Great save on the legs. We all make mistakes. I once primered a Helicopter model, then realised I hadn't masked the canopy! Looking forward to more. 1 1

The Spadgent
At last!!!!!!! over the past few weeks I have had to get things ready at the home to get myself back into the office at work in some shape or form. Hybrid they calls it. 🤩 So even though I have only just moved cave I have to up sticks again! 😨 I guess I have to thank my lucky stars I have the space available to do this. so. The cave as it was will now be my wife’s home office. Time to dismantle the grotto, again. 😬 All the babies moved and stacked carefully like some kind of awful Jenga waiting for something ‘orrible to happen. 🥺 You can just see them all lined up on the far right off this picture. The new grotto is…. A bit all over the place. 😯🤪 Before the move there were a few stolen minutes on number one drone. I wanted to make him look more worn than the film so I’m using my AK streaking oils. I’m loving the leaky used look I’m getting. 😍 amongst the details it works well too. I’m so glad I went with the Aluminium base coat rather than the rusted. the front sections are all in place now and suitably leaked upon. Just the lights and cons panel to go. oh and the arm. 🦾 The dribbles work well with the chipped number one. ❤️and the panels really PING! Here’s one more of the side panels. I’m hoping doing this treatment will make the legs less misty. There is more to add but I need to finish Ozark S3 and I’m getting “The look” Thanks for sticking with this. It’s appreciated. 🤖🖤 More tomorrow. 👀🤦♀️ Johnny.
