The Spadgent
Good evening. More work on Dewey tonight. Well Dewey the mule. 🦙 With the top coat dry I really wanted to try out the Mr Mask Neo. I decanted a little onto some foil and dabbed it on edges and areas I wanted chips with a little bit of scourer pad. This stuff dries really quick so it’s tough to see where you’ve been but I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it. With that done I mixed up some blue and sprayed on the base coat. It’s a thinned coat and you can still see some of the base coat through it which I kind of like. I mixed up two further coats. A dark that got sprayed it the corners a bit like a post shade. I also did a little stipple masking. Then a lighter shade that got gently put on the corners and in the middle of panels. Here are some cheeky booth shots. And waiting to dry. If you zoom you can see where the fluid is. Really looking forward to blu- tacking it off tomorrow. 🤞 fingers crossed it’ll work. see y’all later. All the best. I’d have to wait till he’s finished to get everything right mind. If and when the res gets better then yes the files will just work. I have modelled him at a decent quality so he should stand up just fine. Watch this space. 🤩😇
The Spadgent
Morning! 😀 Well the fluid got removed, actually on the night before yesterday as I couldn’t resist the temptation. 🤤 yesterday was super busy at work so I didn’t have time for anything other than making food lighting the fire and opening wine afterward. 😍 I’m happy with the results but maybe not for this project. Let me show you. I did lots of tests with this being a mule. I like this element of the chipping but I’m not sure about the rust colour. I think when I do it for real I’ll either go silver or dark grey. Here I went all out. The effect is fantastic so thanks to @Volksjagerfor that but again possibly too much for Dewey. mulling it over for a day or so I’m not going for a rusty look on the final drone. It’s a convincing look but not here. Also this pic shows that I really need to do a pass of light sanding before I paint. 🙃 see that diagonal line on his left side. Just for fun I added some streaking but this compounded that I’m not going down this road. Dewey wouldn’t ever have been rained on. 🤔 one step too far me thinks. It’s a good look alas not here. chipped ? Yes but down the subtle road. Thanks for looking and please all comments welcome. Johnny.

They probably had sprinklers in the bio-domes so he could have got wet, and it was probably warm and humid, so there's your excuse. 2

Here's an ideal subject for loads of rust - I love giving stuff the accelerated ageing treatment. This could be before/after aged/restored either way round.

The Spadgent
Disaster.😩😞😭😭😭 With half a day spent with the boy at a fencing comp I should have really have had a chill for the rest of the day. Instead after two episodes of book of Boba fett I decided to glue Dewey together. bottom on fine. Right side on fine. wait!!!! That’s the left side!!!! 😲😲😲😲😮😮😮😧😧😧😫😫😤😤😤 basically I glued the the left side onto the right side. Tried to get them apart and. That’s the main section the bottom and one side right down the drain. 😭 what do we do when we fall off? More tomorrow. Johnny 3
Hunter Rose
Oh man thats a sod!! Good on you for just cracking on though. I guess at least you dont have to track down another seller and buy another part, its just hit "print"! My word I'd love a 3d printer (very jealous)

My word I'd love a 3d printer (very jealous) Thanks for the vote of confidence. 🙃 It’s true it could have been the £100 kit I was going to buy and that really would have been tragic. As it happens I’ll pop out another print. The left side is nearly done. I’ll start the middle section to print over night. You should try the printing park if you have the capacity for it. It’sa whole different ball game. Great fun to be had. 😀
hendie
Well that's a blow to the wotsits Johnny, but another plus for having a printer. Like you say, that could've been an expensive kit down the drain, but now... just a few hours of finding something else to do and you'll be all set to carry on

Andy Moore
Bad luck Johnny, but at the same time one of the joys of printing - everything's replaceable. One of the things I've taken to doing on 3D designs recently is to add keyed mounting points to different components, like a circular mounting post for a part that goes on the left side, and a square post for the right hand part. That way it's idiot proofed (or me proofed) when it comes to assembly. The paint mule is looking great, love the rust streaking. I think you're right that silver would look better though. Very nice work and I am glad the chipping came out well, it certainly looks the part. Yep I would go with a steel or dark grey colour which you can add rust tone to is you prefer once they are done. I reckon you have it nailed though

Yes when I get him back to where he was I’m heading down the silver road me thinks. 😀 well well. Here we are again. The bottom section I printed this time at an angle and made bigger drain holes. A much better print this time. A lot cleaner and fewer supports. Snipped cured and ready for a bit o’ Sanding. or I could drink this homemade grape vodka. 🤪 I know what @corsaircorp would do. 🤩 Thanks for looking. And while that dried I dig this out. 😲 Never leave a god kit behind. 😇 Hope you’re all having a great week. The Spadgent
Good afternoon. What better to do on a wet Sunday than a spot of drone painting. 😊 Out with friends in the City yesterday and passed my old LMS 😔 Still empty. If you look closely you can see my umberella in the reflection. Tornado models did pop up from Mike? I think from here but that is over the other side of town so no chance to visit. Fun and beer was enjoyed. 😍 Alley hoo. Dewey! The parts got sprayed silver in preparation for todays paint. Vallejo Duraluminium. legs. Programmes and bits. And the main body. No pre shade s all the work didn’t show through last time. Post shade it’s the way.🤗 first task was to apply the masking fluid with a bit of scourer. I just couldn’t help myself. I went a bit crazy even though I though I wouldn’t but I figured it’s my drone I can paint him however. 😀 The blue went on well. Then a spot of post shading. making use of the stipple stencils. Looking about right. Masking up the feet I totally forgot that Dewey had a red bottom. so some strategic masking was in order. The it was time for paint. And the rest. Seems about the right colour. 😊 ♥️💙 That dried while I cleaned out the soggy chickens. Then the masking came off. Looks good. And legs. “Aye cannae teek anay mure caapten. “ Blue-tac time to reveal Ze Chips. 🍟 Fantastic!! I do love this. I didn’t take any close ups of the body however and as I’m in the bath it’ll have to wait. 🛀 I did take some pics of him together though. 😊 Oh here are the little pod things that go on the front. I’ve gone Boba fett CrAzy!!! 🤤 Really love it. Glad I went with silver rather than rust. Details, flory and filters will knock all that right back. 😃 But overall I’m pleased. My desk light got caught in this shot so I couldn’t resist. And a parting shot while I go and have a well earned soak. Hope you’re all having a splendid weekend. The eagle eye can see that Tom has joined me again at the bench. Just above my clock. He was around quite a bit when I started here on Britmodeller. it’s a welcome return. Toodle pip then. All comments welcome. Johnny.
Pete in Lincs
Well that was a mega catch up. Printing magic and paint magic. It gets betterer and betterer. The rust effect was great. But i felt it was more akin to a Kreiger build than a gardening robot. He'd be more likely to have an Aluminium shell. Or plastic. Or, why not printed? That's a great shot on the desk with the light over his shoulder. I'm looking forward to the end result! And now, in other news... 1 hour ago, The Spadgent said: I totally forgot that Dewey had a red bottom. Woof! 1 hour ago, The Spadgent said: That dried while I cleaned out the soggy chickens.
