The native brave on a mustang is a throw-back to the mid/late 1940's, when the F 16 fighter wing in Uppsala took delivery of surplus P-51D Mustangs; Swedish appellation J 26. Some of the new mounts were decorated with the now iconic native-on-horseback: The Mustang in Swedish Air Force service was used both as a fighter and as a photo recce plane, the S 26.
