simmerit
So that shim solves the problem with the gap at the top of the glacis plate. I'm 99.9% certain the front track guards are going to have to come off the glacis as they are catchig on the tracks in either position - with or without the shim. Its a good job we enjoy this modelling lark isn't it? I'd sort of just hoped this one was going to go together with very little effort!! 6
diablo rsv
Shame your progress is being hindered by these little hiccups, I'm surprised that Amusing Hobby didn't take the opportunity to improve upon what is really quite an old AFV kit. I may well have a look at my AVRE kit and see if it's worth the effort. I really can't see any reason to go with their Mk.5 over the AFV Club ones. It looks like you are beginning to get the better of this one though. Wayne

As you say, they missed an opportunity to update a dated kit, and its deffo put me off rushing at the AVRE build. Coincidently I just had a natter with @Dads203 and y comment to him was its a bit like building one of Trumpeter's poorer efforts!
simmerit
Glacis plate on. I should be able to crack on now without any other major hinderance If you do one of these and fit the etch, it's probably worth whipping off the track guards anyway as it makes it easier to clean off the bolted on securing brackets that attach the track guards to the glacis.
APA
This build is starting to get the juices flowing for me to break through the mental block I have with mu AFV Club Cent sitting gathering dust 😁. Really great details and well done with the multitude of brackets all over it. I have the same ones which triggered my block!! Andrew

Andrew Thanks Andrew - I think it will be worth it, and I know what you mean about mental blocks. I've come close to putting it down three or four times. I do wonder what the newer AFV Club kits are like. You'd hope they'd have taken the opportunity to update them. I've managed to get a stack of time in today. I've probably got another hour or so I can do as the mrs is out with work til 2300hrs, so plenty time on the build. I've re-used the smoke grenade dischargers from the unAmusing Hobby kit, which saves a bit of time on scratching them, and gone with PanzerArt fire extinguishers There are a lot of grab handles on this bloody panzer!!! I've got quite a bit of soldering to do next, which I've been avoiding, but I'm running out of runway now and will have to bit the bullet on it. One other point is the 30 cal that comes with the kit is absolute pants. I picked up a Meng jeep the other day and plan to nick the 30 cal from that as I read somewhere its one of the best ones on the market at the minute. It certainly looks nice. There's no mounting brackets for it with the Ederwooda etch set, but these look pretty straight forward to knick out. I'll have to look at the mount on the Meng jeep kit also as the unAmusing Hobby 30 cal mount is equally pants. Never a dull moment!!
simmerit
Up at stupid o'clock, so cracked on a bit before the op! The cable drum with the kit looked like it was made out of two one penny pieces - not an option. That should do nicely for the D10. Larkspur was a tad before my time, but I'm assuming D10 is D10 is D10. Anyway. Glad I've done that one. That's me done for a few days................

Jasper dog
Remarkable workmanship, all your extra detail makes such a difference. Haven't built up the tracks, or road wheels, yet so no idea who they will fit in relation to the track guards, hopefully there wont be a problem . Strange yours had the gap after fitting the glacis. I've a very slight one that I can fill but at the top of the panel this I'll blame on myself. Looking at some of your earlier pics the glacis appeared to fit ok, now with the plastic strip it looks just every so slightly high where it meets the roof of the drivers position. Good luck with the op.

Good luck with the op. I spent a bit of time looking at a Cent restoration and have some great snaps of the glacis which I can’t post as Flickr is playing up (must be amazon’s AWS data centres in the US still down). I think it’s actually OK on my build as the top of it sits proud against the two strips down the side of the top of the hull, and when you look at the piccies I can’t post, it sits quite high in relation to the drivers position. I’ll post them tomoz if I can get to my Flickr account. Cheers Si Edited December 7, 2021 by simmerit Typo
simmerit
@Jasper dog - here's the glacis on the Cent undergoing restoration. This one is reenforced as you can see in both piccies. Still in hospital by the way - they are keeping me in an extra night. The good news is I've got to take it easy for two weeks so she will have to put up with the modelling as I cant do anything else!
Jasper dog
Don't think it's much and it may not remove the necessity for the plastic strip but your glacis looks to be sitting a smidge high, particularly when looking at it from the side. There's a slight step down from the top of the glacis to the top of the side of the hull next to the drivers position (most noticeable on the second to last photo of your build). The restored example is completely flush. To try and illustrate I've photographed the Shot Kal from a similar angle. All that said, it probably doesn't matter in the slightest! Get well soon and enjoy the enforced R&R just in time for Christmas!

Been kept in an extra day and may be here til Monday so won’t be back on the Cent for a bit by the looks of things. Not quite R&R!!!!!
simmerit
Well that's the pain finally under control and me back on the Cent. For those lads who know me, here was my palatial room for 4 days It was newly refurbished and no-one knew who to work the temperature control. Consequently I froze on the first night then they brought a radiator in! Highlights of the stay were making my own bed for two of the four days, doing a room sweep at 2330 hrs on two nights as it was a pig sty and hadn't been cleaned and having to open my and close my curtains for three of the four nights and two of the four days, as well as being pushed with full force into a door by a porter when taken down to x-ray, with all the impact being taken on the leg that I'd had the hip operation on. I did have the pleasure of giving them full written feedback. I expect the day and night care staff will be on show parade by now and expecting a nice trip to Colly. What an utter shambles. And here is me. Well part of me Picture is reversed but its actually my right leg in reality. If you look at the leg in the piccie, it's the left. Its about 50% bigger (as was the hip) than the un-operated on hip & leg. Its still mahoosive as its only a week today, but I'm back on the model, so should be able to spend a good 7-10 days pretty much full time on the Panzers before the new year, and she isnt moaning about it! So. My last comment on why you should buy Voyager etch if you do one of these. The bracket on top is the UnAmmusing Hobby kit bracket and the bracket underneath is the Ederwooda etch, which is soon to be destined for the bin. Time to crack on. Hopefully I will nail the majority of the outstanding build items by the end of the day. That's the plan anyway! Oh - one hip down, one to go........... Cheers LM Mine was a tough op according to the butcher. He normally fits size 50 ceramic cups into the hip - mine was a size 58. The biggest they do is a 60. I have big bones and big hips apparently, which surprised me as when I'm fit, I'm not a big bloke. I'm 6' tall but was carrying little weight up til end June. I've put about 14-16 kilos on since then, which is really getting me down. I also have very large and dense thigh muscles as well apparently so it was a proper blood bath. That's down to the running and weights I reckon. I've completely lost my muscle tone in the legs which is also depressing. I was told I'll take twice as long to recover - that's where I should set my expectation. The good news is the pain relief is working. I'm on Codine which is supposed to sen you to sleep - it doesn't! I've avoided the two different morphines they have given me as natural opioids are seriously bad news. If I do take them, I have to have them four hours apart if I take the stronger one as I will stop breathing!! Allegedly!! I'm hoping I'll be off the crutches in two weeks. The mrs wants be to go to this stupid Harry Potter thing at the Elstree studios which are near me. They want me to go in a wheel chair so I can get them to the front of the queues. I hate Harry Potter with a passion and am getting zero sympathy when I say I don't want to go...... I am cracking on with the Cent by the way!

In with a knife, next its an angle grinder to do some cutting, then its a power drill to drill some holes then its a 10lb stainless steel lump hammer to do some very serious hammering. The surgeon must have arms like popeye. I wish I'd not watched:-) Best get back to the plot! Track guards on. I used the kit mounting brackets as previously explained. I'd like to have taken the rest of the plastic off and used etch, but I'd need a 1/20th scale model Cent to use the Ederwooda stuff on.................. I reckon another 5 or so hours without interruption should crack this. The plan is to get it to the same place as the 2 Chally 2s and the Centaur and Cromwell then job lot the weathering. I've also got 21 little lads to do. I must say the Cent is a pleasing bit of armour. I've got an Australian 5/2 and an ARVE to do but I suspect its a break from armour after these. Its either.......... the Wokka, or a 60" HMS Dreadnought next. Or maybe a 1/35th Thunder Models Scammell artillery tractor + gun or a stringbag in 1/32
