Popular Post Redboost
Hi fellow britmodellers, inspired by a quarter scale Eduard VLR Mustang kit, I took the Airfix kit and modified it to one of Iwo Jima machines. Decals came from georgeous DK Decal sheet. The mods featured some scribing, making new antennae masts setup and borrowing the 165 US gal tanks from a P-38 kit along with some scratch building for their sway braces etc. Painted with Mr. Color SM range. Cheers. Libor 77

noelh
Excellent, the Airfix kit does scrub up well. I also notice you you managed to differentiate between the painted and the natural metal fuselage. Great work.

Farmerboy
Great scale effect on the finish, l thought it was a typo when you said it was 1/72, looks like 1/48 or bigger, good job! 1

David Koktavý
Hello Libor, Excelent and awesome build . I am still two or three steps behind you, because I actually have running order with two DKdecals Mustang sheets. 😀 Just planed to do the Tamiya kit, but looking at your build I am not sure which kit is better. I see the main difference is in downed flaps and..? Do you have any hint? I have one more question to drop tanks. I only found the 165gal in some kits like P-47 or P-38. But does anybody know where to get 110 galons tanks please ? Edited October 6, 2021 by David Koktavý
Redboost
Hi David, both are very good, but IMHO, I rate Tamiya higher thanks to better moulding technology, and also some smaller details are sharper. Btw, on this build I replaced the landing gear and wheels with those from Tamiya kit. Cheers Libor 1

TEXANTOMCAT
That's superb- if you'll forgive me - it shows how good the Airfix kit can come out for a 'cheap' kit - that is in no way to denegrate the work you've done on it which is amazing!
