SPAD64
I’ve just received mine today. It’s very impressive. Cockpit and dive brake details are amazing. You can sell your hasegawa. Edited November 5, 2021 by SPAD64 Mistype
ruudster
I received mine Wednesday. I'm going to wrap it up and put it under the tree (that is not there yet). I need something exciting modeling wise to open on the 25th.
Torbjorn
The Dauntless was one of my favourite builds as a kid. I’ll probably get suckered into buying this one. It certainly looks better than the old Airfix (not saying it was bad mind you). Edited November 5, 2021 by Torbjorn
72modeler
I haven't had a chance to put my hands on this one, as the one I have ordered is en route, but by all accounts it looks like a very nice kit! See the linked reviews below. My only thought, and I haven't researched it yet, and they might not be so pronounced as they appear in the video, but it looked to me like those oblong blisters/fairings under the wing center section might be too pronounced. Wish I had bought the Aerophile on the SBD when it was available, but that reference work is long, long, long OOP! Mike https://youtu.be/FqY8AvtPZgI I looked thru several pages for any other post on this kit in this forum, but didn't see any- if I have duplicated a post, then Julien/Mike can remove it. Kiwikitbasher
Hi Mike, It's a superb kit with delectable surface detail, very interior detail, perforations in the flaps, just great all round. I hope to build it soon. I landed mine for NZ$37 (about 18GBP) including postage from Hobby Easy in Hong Kong.

Homebee
What's next Flyhawk aircraft kit ? That's the question. V.P. Edited February 18, 2022 by Homebee

I’d guess something with a naval aviation connection. A new TBF/TBM in 1/72 would be nice.
John Thompson
To me, if a USN connection is part of the plan, a possibility would seem to be two or three late Corsairs - F4U-5, F4U-7, AU-1, in 1/72. The only current ones are either High Planes limited run, or the inaccurate Italeri representations. John
Jay Barfoot
I'd vote for a TBD-1 Devastator if they're sticking with a 1/72 USN/Midway theme. I'd love to see one get the same treatment as their Dauntless.
Eric B.
Although I'd like to see a beautiful series of late F4Us starting with the -4, I was thinking TBD Devastator or SBC Helldiver... Eric B.
Drop Bear
I am just of tidying up my Flyhawk SBD Dauntless before I start painting. I have a query about VB-6's SBD-3 prop tips at Midway, but before that - a word on the kit: I read somewhere that several kits had an issue with a prop blade being bent/misshapen - as does mine 😑 however I think this is rare and I can fix that......... As for the rest of the kit - it is an absolute cracker to put together - the level of detail is excellent and I see no need for any aftermarket; the cockpit comes up very nicely (Disclaimer: I'm not a rivet counter). Be careful - being so small, a number of parts/extremities are very easy to break. I'm loving this build! Given the 80th anniversary of Midway is just next week, I'm doing Best's B-1 of VB-6. The kit decals 'only' give you about 40 other options across 3 Squadrons 🤩 Sharing a quote from another build: "Dick Best himself told me that the aircraft of VB-6 at Midway were new and very clean; the squadron had operated the SBD-2 until mid-May 1942, and picked up replacement SBD-3s that were only a month from factory-new when the "Enterprise" came back to Pearl Harbour after escorting the Doolittle Raid." I am speculating that new build prop tips by May 1942 had changed to yellow only? (ie from blue, red, yellow) I've not found any photographic evidence of this though and wonder if anyone has the silver bullet answer.

If you zoom in on the top photo the prop looks to be tri-colored. https://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=18047

If you zoom in on the top photo the prop looks to be tri-colored. https://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=18047 Hi there - thanks for reaching out! I got as far as this photo noted as 'SBD 2/3s' taken on USS Enterprise on 11 May 42: https://www.history.navy.mil/content/history/nhhc/our-collections/photography/numerical-list-of-images/nhhc-series/nh-series/80-G-14000/80-G-14115.html On it's own it's a pretty good reference. If you look straight aft, you initially see tri colour props on the SBD's. But the 3rd and 5th props from the front look different/narrower and to me they're yellow. Once you see them, you'll see a few others. They also have the 2 tail stripe which I believe was VB-6 at the time. Some of these airframes also look to be in pretty good condition, so I'm speculating that new yellow tip props were finding their way to the squadrons with the new SBD-3's Best says were delivered. Clearly you'd think the SBD-2's would have tri colours. There's also that cheeky F4F in the foreground with early insignia, folding wings (F4F-4) and yellow tips. I have seen examples of both types of tips modelled on Best's Midway SBD-3. But I am leaning towards yellow I think, acknowledging it's becoming an educated guess............

I think you are safe either way to be honest. Even the -2’s would probably have had some newer prop’s as replacements if they were damaged. The odds are in your favor as the few survivors of the war are you're only exact info besides photo’s.
Fernando
Hallo, gents, Is there any indication that this would be followed by a SBD-5 version? Fernando

Fernando The cowl is separate from the other frames as is the frame with the tail wheel and the rear gunner’s machine guns. I’d be shocked if we didn’t see a -4, -5, and an A-24 Banshee land-based bomber.
jimmaas
Regarding Best's aircraft at Midway- the landing gear legs are red. No, not to indicate special fuel, that was German. Best's unit used the landing gear legs to identify plane-in-squadron using the same color code system as pre war yellow wing Navy aircraft. Best's B-1 had both legs red. B-2 had one leg red, the other leg NS Light Gray. B-3 had the opposite legs red and gray. B-4 had both legs white, B-5 one white and one gray, etc. Quite striking in John Ford color film, by the way. Tom Tullis' excellent website has the complete story at HERE
