Slater
It's not often that a nation buys a single aircraft through FMS: https://www.dsca.mil/sites/default/files/mas/Press Release - Australia 21-58 CN.pdf
exdraken
Interesting indeed! So effectively RAAF did not care for possible attrition when buying them in the first place... I always thought part of their F fleet was already pre- wired for Growler conversion....
Hoppy
I think this is the replacement for the one that had an engine go boom during take off at Nell's airforce base a couple of years ago. They've been waiting for the insurance payout 😂 https://adbr.com.au/engine-component-failure-most-likely-cause-of-raaf-growler-fire-incident/

From the document : "This aircraft would replace Australia’s EA-18G A46-311 aircraft lost in an accident at Nellis Air Force Base. "

Correct, half were pre-wired and have a few extra lumps and bumps on them not found on a normal F ready for antennas to plug in.

Haven’t the Australians decided not to mod them after all and are buying more dedicated Growlers. Or was that a rumour? Trevor

What did happen actually? Engine turbine disk failure? Debris? Bird ingestion?

What did happen actually? Engine turbine disk failure? Debris? Bird ingestion? I believe a high pressure compressor disk broke under full power. There was a question at the time over liability, if I remember right as the jet was/had just been handed over. Seems Boeings warranty ends when it leaves the showroom 😎 https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-08-19/warplanes-engine-destroyed-itself-during-attempted-take-off/10129180

Of course the reason for the disc failure would be good to know! Material failure, foreign object damage, etc! If I remember correctly, a Boeing F-15K with GE engines indeed was replaced when lost due to an engine failure over the sea... Maybe also the fact it was a FMS deal is important here! GMK
I’ve heard the three fleets referred to as F, F+ (they’re the pre-wired & slightly heavier jets), & the Gs, twelve of each, total of 36. This purchase brings the number procured to 37, but maintains the fleet size (oc).
