Here's my next...KP Model's Piper L-18C, 100th Sq. IAF, Dov airfield, 1965.  It looks alright.  there are a couple of odd bits in the instructions, but I'll get the those later.  Here's the box art...

Let me finish up another build (Sopwith Tripe) before I start this one.  Next week I'll dig in, I think.

I'm hoping that I get back to the bench soon.  I am off island for the next five days, as of tomorrow, for work and then the following week I make the final move from my little flat to the house.  Busy busy...In a week-and-a-half I am hoping to be living there, sleeping there and modelling there...thankfully these GB threads don't end until November!  Please forgive the delay!

Ok...I have made a start...finally!  the instructions call for some drilling of the glass part.  Thank the gods it is a single piece and not that terribly designed multi-pane disaster of the AZ kit...

Whoever designed this kit should get an award.  Brilliant.

The wings...canopy, etc...I mean, seriously. Logic and reason combine to make something that actually works.

In retrospect I should have scratchbuilt these supports.  They are purely cosmetic.  But I used the micro-saw anyway.

Yes...one broke.  It doesn't matter.  They go inside the canopy.

Et voila...

I test fitted the canopy to the fuselage.  Not perfect and I will have to add a bit of plastic around the front area to fill a gap.  But I'm not crying.

All the wing-y bits are on and I have attached the undercarriage.  I think I will prime it now and paint it before I add the 'V' struts.  It'll just be easier that way.  I can prime and paint them individually anyway.

The Hataka paint is nice but it requires some thinning before airbrushing.  That's fine as long as you know that.  maybe the enamels do not but I am using the acrylic set.

The underside is grey (no photo) and the topside will be brown and blue.  The brown looks good so far.  I think I will mask using blu-tac for the blue to get a better scale-line...

I have to get a move on with this one...

OK.  I am not impressed with the Hataka acrylics.  Please don't suggest switching to their enamels or lacquer...I won't for health reasons.  So I went ahead with their Grey Blue (RAL 5008)...

Masked first...

Then the trouble began.  The Hataka Grey Blue looked a bit thick out of the bottle so I thinned it some with their thinner.  Yikes.  I mean...no, no, no...sorry...no pictures of that disaster.  Thankfully it didn't make it on the plane.  So I tried the regular strength.  And, yes, I mixed the paint perfectly.

Yuck.  Terrible.  Luckily I was able to wipe off a lot of it before it dried...

And since it was listed as RAL 5008 and I already have that from Vallejo Air, I switched.

Much better.  It covered cleanly and evenly right from the bottle, I was even able to spray fine lines...phew!  Then I took care of the overspray on the underside with Vallejo Light Gull Grey.

I am relieved.  The build will be fine.  I'll take off the window masks today and attach the struts, wheels, etc...decals, some light weathering et voila!

What results have people had from the Hataka Acrylic line?  So far I have not been impressed and have tried it a few times.  Maybe it's just me.  I am certainly not an expert with an airbrush.

Glad you were able to recover.

It's interesting how some paints can be selective with whom they work. I had a horrible time spraying Vallejo Air and never obtained an acceptable finish with Future, regardless of the method of application. Mr Color though, it's hands-down the best paint I've ever used. It also taught me that my airbrushing technique prior to using it was 💩.

Sorry to hear of the troubles

Thanks Dennis.  It's alright.  It all worked out in the end.

I have used a Hataka paints without any trouble, I did read somewhere that the earlier batches were problematic but that these have now been corrected.  Like @dnl42 I just cannot get on with Vallejo Air.

Decals are on...masks on the glass are off...the struts are on...some painting touch-ups have happened but I'll go over it again.  I still have to add the exhaust pipe, attache the wheels and the prop.  Into the gallery later today I predict...
