Hi Frank, thanks for the great comments. No it's all in the standard version I'm afraid! I must admit I'm finding much easier now I'm using it more.

All looks fantastic.

The only other thing I have spotted is that the photos I have don't show a flange on the rear of the supercharger body where it mates with the cross member? I see you had to nibble a bit away to get the pressurised air feed pipe passed it!

I'm sure you will have a better photo reference though!

Yes, there's something wrong there. Airfix have a flange which I don't think is right. I'm not at all sure how this works, it just seems to have an enormous jubilee clip affair wrapped around it?

Yes, not sure what the band clamp is for?

I first thought the clamp held the casting to the crossmember, but the cross member flange faces towards the rear of the car, with a big radius on the front side, so I feel the need to crawl underneath a blower to have a look!!

I tried to find out when the next BDC club meet is, but they only allow members to see the schedule.....

Malc, try and ask the BDC to forward on your details to an owner geographically nearest to you so they can get back to you. That will be the best way to access a car if the owner gets back to you. Alternatively try the VSCC and find out about their meetings as a likely place for a Blower Bentley to be found. There are also of course specialist restorers like Elmdown that might be worth contacting.

 

Nick's developments for the old Airfix Bentley will be of great benefit in drastically upgrading that elderly kit. Depending on cost to the buyer, if different aspects can be bought separately like wheels, engine details, Hartford Shocks and so on might suit different pockets as well as supplying a full transkit. I understand that he is developing a full kit too that should prove very interesting.

I tried that and had absolutely no response whatsoever from the BDC. I'll add that I was a Marshall Member of the BDC for quite a few years and volunteered at Silverstone for their annual race meet for over 5 years.

I have nothing complimentary to say about them, so won't say anything.

In the last episode of Dominic Chinea on youtube, he visits Bicester scramble on 10th October.

At 7.46 mins in there is a stripped Bentley engine on a stand with an Amherst Villiers supercharger on the bench behind!

The old Airfix big Bentley has come in for some criticism on here as well as the £99 rrp price tag

Considering the kit saw light of day 50 odd years ago using old development drafting and production technology, is it all that bad? Considering that some 1/24 scale plastic car kits knock the £50 Mark these days the 1/12 scale Bentley does not seem so badly priced.

At least it gives Nick something basic to improve on, and offering different levels of trans kits is a good way to go that will suit many pockets. Not all of us can afford a full trans kit or a full kit approaching MFH prices so it looks as though Nick will be doing many model builders a good service with the different trans kit options that it looks likely that he will be offering.

Apart from Shapeways 3D printed shock absorbers, I am surprised that in all these years, no one else has bothered with upgrade kits for this Bentley before.

I wish him well with this venture!

I did those with similar ideas to Nick and have been pleasantly surprised by how many have been sold. However I didn't have a 3d printer then and Shapeways have become very expensive so I didn't continue with other parts. I may well rethink when I get back onto my kit as I'll need new bits which I can now do and market them myself, but just too busy at the moment. I also had some decals made up for the shocks.

If possible i would like to contakt you via e-mail an share some things, like etched parts for the dumpers i have almost createtd ... may be, it will help you. Wheels i did already quite similar to yours and the engine has been tuned by scratching - your engine ist just great, congratulations!

They make fully built 1/6th scale Bentley Blower models and have a multitude of PR photos showing the incredible amount of detailing of their model on their website. A good reference source to download for this subject.

Hi everyone, back on the horse now

The clue (not much of a one admittedly) is the recess in the top bit is 80mm X 25mm and .5mm deep

 

It's just printing now, so I'll let you know if it works shortly and all will be revealed then.
