Mpfiend
Nick, Superb work. Will you definitely be putting all of your Bentley modifications together as a trans kit? if so I think I will get the Airfix kit ordered in preparation, I have been wanting to build this for years but have always been put off by the lack of correct detail in the kit. Eagerly following Keith. Edited October 1, 2021 by Mpfiend spelling
Brandy
I have a set of shocks available on Shapeways for this and have sold quite a few. Much more could be done but this is not my focus. The kit also needs a replacement for the water pump assembly and inlet, radiator, firewall, and brake drums. Other than that it is all basically doable in traditional ways although a new steering box and mounts for the instrument panel/oil tank would help enormously. Oh, and the non-existent (in the kit) dynamo, although it's easy enough to scratch build. One thing is certain, this is NOT a "museum quality" kit! nick
First prints in paint now. I must admit, I’m very pleased with this, now it’s all coming together. Thanks to everyone who helped me get this far. I was looking for something to look like polished aluminium, when I had this genius idea - polished aluminium! Works for me. regards Nick

Ian As it happens all of those things, and more, are on my to-do list. So far I’m looking at retaining the chassis rails (until I get a bigger printer) the tyres, until I solve that one too, and maybe the clear parts. Other than that, I haven’t seen Much that I like the look of. Nick

Eagerly following Keith. That’s true at the time of writing, but who knows what the future holds since the demise of mystic Meg and that World Cup octopus. It depends how long you want to wait, right now, if I had a printer big enough, I would go the whole-hog and just produce a full kit, the Airfix thing is very old and very nasty and almost entirely land fill as far as I’m concerned and really not worth anything like the £100 plus it sells for. I’m buying up vintage Tamiya 1/12th kits to reverse engineer too which are often a similar age, and they really aren't bad in comparison so ‘just cos it’s old’ doesn’t wash. if I were you, maybe just buy a cheapo, clumsily built up thing off evil bay and butcher that for the chassis and tyres, you’re really not missing anything. I bought a ‘current issue’ £100+ kit to do this and the ‘bin’ pile is growing every time I look at something. The tyres are quite lonely in the ‘non-bin’ pile so far. I would have a conscience about encouraging anyone to buy this kit, in my head, I’m freeing all the ‘never to be built’ ones people already have. hope that makes some kind of sense? Nick Nick, That makes perfect sense, a complete kit sounds like a great idea, I can be very patient😎. In the mean time, I will just enjoy your progress here. Will the italeri Fiat Mefistofele get your same attention fairly soon? Best Regards Keith

nick
Latest proper shots of the first build, Paint is scruffy and I now realise I only printed the inlet manifold in draft not final resolution, so the next one will be better! nick
It won’t come as a surprise that the corrected engine fouls the back of the made-up Airfix radiator now, like I wasn’t going to redo the radiator anyway. Obviously the bulkhead needs doing too, I can see how this going to go. thats tomorrow's job then.

nick
Good progress on the Supercharger today Correcting the crossmember also cures the earlier alignment issue with the pressure tube going to the inlet manifold, everything clears now without cheating. Or the band? 😂 (I saw them in the 90’s, still one of the best bands to see live) This is the kind of engine that needs to be on show. I've just found this thread so I've given you lots of likes. Fabulous stuff. And full marks for perseverance too. There's something organic about the shape of that cam cover. Think of the 'Alien' head. The reversed (was it?) blow off shells? Perhaps with them facing the engine block the pressure wasn't dispersed quickly enough? Turn them around and they 'blow off' into the whole engine bay, thus losing the pressure faster. Or I could be totally barking up the wrong gooseberry bush. I'll pop back from time to time and see how this one is getting on.
