BushBrit66
Early F-84F cockpits were green up to say block 60. Was this true of early RF-84F machines? The Suez machines had the early seat and lower fus strake. Having said that I have only seen grey RF cockpits. Any info appreciated Cheers Sean
72modeler
Sean, Good question! I found diagrams of early, mid, and late production F-84 cockpits that I have linked below; no mention of RF's, but the duagreams appear to show black for the early a/c and either grey or green for the late a/c, but no mention was included, nor can you really tell from the photos, as they are b&w. I am not well-versed in the F/RF-84's, so I can't tell you at which block number the cockpit colors changed, but I am thinking they went from black to grey, not green to grey, but I can't say for sure. Not much help, I fear! BushBrit66
Thanks for the pics! Early F-84s were green until around block 60 and I think 1953. There are colour pictures. The RFs were on the production line at the same time but I can only find grey cockpits, so my thinking is that the were only ever grey and post dated
vangos
An exception to grey cockpits? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Missouri_ANG_pilot_in_RF-84F.jpg

I remembered I had a copy of the Detail & Scale on the F-84, but it only covers the straight wing versions; I also looked in my copy of Republic F-84 by David McLaren, but there was no text or photos on how the cockpits were painted. The Kinzey D&S monograph does show a preserved F-84E-20 that has the floor, control column, and seat in interior green, so I guess maybe Republic went from FS 34151 green to FS 36270 grey at some point, but so far I have found no written reference that gives a date, block, or serial number at which the changeover took place. I am also guessing that aircraft supplied to another nation's air force under the MAP that were not overhauled/remanufactured before delivery would have been delivered in the original interior and exterior finish and repainted as necessary after receipt by each individual nation. While I am guessing, the few RF-84F cockpit photos I have seen were all grey, but I have no idea what block was represented in each photo. I think I would go with a grey cockpit and interior/chromate green wheel bays, inner gear door surfaces, flap and speed brake wells for your RF-84F. I was surprised on how little interior color/finish information is out there on F-84's. Sorry I couldn't really answer your question, but I look forward to seeing your WIP and RFI photos. BushBrit66
The Aerofax indicates F-84F were green until block 60. and indeed the ADJPCbook on Luftwaffe machines shows a colour pic of each. I will get the magnifying glass out of RF-84 distance shots.
bentwaters81tfw
This may help. Our F-84F is grey, including all panels, and that is earlier than Block 60. The seat is grey, with red leather head and arm rests. Gear bays are Interior Green, similar to the fin shot.
