Hi all and am taking the plunge with this one:

Will be OOB build with decals by Hi-Decal for the blue splinter scheme used at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center in the late Nineties.

I've never built this Hasegawa kit so here's hoping it goes ok. Any advice always appreciated!

A few references to feed the habit...

Thanks for stopping by and looking forward to following your builds!

Happy modelling,

Dermot

Hope this build is still on track, an aggressor scheme is hard to beat

Cockpit in progress..

And added in..

My kit didn't have the NACA gun parts mentioned by @Pierpaolo so I had to raid another Hasegawa boxing to get them. Surprised at the amount of flash on them..

More soon and thanks for looking.

Thanks all and some more done on this one.

Fuselage joined up.. The fit of the front to the main section was less than great.

And intakes added. I found these a bear to fit, especially where they met the engines. Not sure what the issue was....oh well.

Primed in Halfords White Plastic primer. Boarding ladder/steps masked off with Maskol.

I hand painted the airbrake inners but wasn't happy the finish so masked and sprayed them instead. The bottom then got two coats of Mr Hobby Light Ghost Grey

Then on to the top. This got two light coats of Mr Hobby Dark Ghost Grey - maybe it's me but I thought it should be more grey/less blue than that?

Masked again and then hit with a homemade brew of Air Superiority Blue - this was mostly XF-2 White with some drops of XF-8 Blue. I tacked on the tails so I could carry over the splinter masking on to them.

Masked again (!) for another homebrew mix of Aggressor Blue - this was equal parts XF-8 and XF2 with some drops of XF-60 Dark Yellow.

Once it's all dry, will see how we got on!

Thanks all and into the home stretch now.

Decals by Hi-Decal added. These were very thin and sharply printed but did not like being moved on the model....so happy there weren't that many; use with caution!

You'll need to add F-14 stencils & slime lights yourself on this one but according to references, the real aircraft didn't have that many stencils.

After a gloss coat, it was out with Dark Dirt wash.. I'm going to tone down the crew walkway markings as they're a bit too dark/shiny.
