Good progress John and plenty detail packed into that small area

Thanks a lot Col. The nose section has been glued in place, I'll take some photos later. There is a vac-form canopy with the Res-Im set and I am contemplating using it, if I can make a decent job of trimming it up. If things work out then I will tack the kit item in place as a mask for the cockpit.

Cheers

Here are photos of the progress so far, the nose/rear sections having been joined together late last night. Prior to joining the two nose sections I had packed each forward half with Liquid Gravity, then decided to adopt a belt and braces approach before joining the forward and aft sections - adding a large split fishing weight just behind the cockpit, which should ensure that this is not a tail sitter. I also removed the ECM bumps from the underside which were not fitted on this particular airframe.

I have carried out some thinning on the sides of the intakes, but I think that they may need a tad more before they are ready for paint. The last shot is of the vac-form canopy, I have not had too many successes with these in the past, but we will see how things go this time.

Lovely work so far, great to see some 144th scale super detailing on display.

Thanks Tim. Having added the odd small detail to 1/144 kits in the past, I thought that I would try and add some extra detail on this one. I have a similar set for Revell's early Tornado kit which I plan to use at some point - if my eyes will hold out.

Hi  John,

you are doing a great job with these two cats.

Having said that, my mind baulks at seeing photo etch used on 1/144 cockpits... It would suit neuro surgery better!

So all the credits to you for packing so much details into so little space!

Well done!

Hi Jean,

Thanks for dropping by and for your comments. As you know working in 1/144 scale is a lot easier if you use my specialist eyewear. :nerdy:   I made a start on painting this one today but I think that it will be touch and go as to whether I can finish on time, there is a lot of tricky masking to do on this one. Not easy in 1/48, just plain nuts in 1/144 - I do like a challenge.

Hi John.

it is either COVID or the vaccine that has affected your mind! I swear that tackling such a paint scheme in 1/144 does not speak too well of your mental state, extra-terrestrial eye-wear or not!!!

Please do not stop taking the pink pills!

But have fun too, while you are at it.

Top choice of colour scheme John :speak_cool: The extra two weeks will hopefully help here.

Thanks Col. The two week extension will be very useful mate.  I masked and primed up the top surface yesterday, then this morning added the Air Superiority Blue using AK's Real Colour range. It's the first time I have airbrushed with that range and it sprayed beautifully. I will start to mask up ready for the Aggressor Blue later today.

Nice painting!

Thanks Roberto. I spent the afternoon masking up using a combination of re-sized copies of the decal instruction sheet, tape and masking fluid. I still have the tailplanes to mask and then it will be time to get some more paint on. Once that has dried it will be time to repeat the whole process for the grey.

And finally, this little chap has just dropped by to wish all fellow Britmodellers 'A Merry Banana'.

Did you use pink primer?🤣
The special modelling specs are working overtime on the Tomcat masking. I can’t wait to see the results good buddy.

No pink primer for the minion buddy, the ear bashing hadn't started at that point . I just used a white base coat, some Flash Gitz Yellow and a red acrylic (possibly Mephiston Red) from Citadel.

I managed to get the tails masked up today and sprayed on the Aggressor Blue,  and I have unmasked to reveal this.

There are one or two soft edges that may need sharpening up, but we will see how things are once I have applied the grey.

Almost ready for decals, after that is done it will be time to push on with the last few details like undercarriage doors, painting the canopy etc. The Fightertown decals state that around 97-98 the canopy and an area on the nose of this aircraft was finished in FS36237 with the other grey of the splinter pattern was FS36320. Having been unable to find any grey paint numbered 6237 I have assumed that this was a misprint and that it should have been FS35237 which is a blue-grey colour and looks about right when compared to the colour profile supplied.

Here is where I am at with this one. I think decals on tomorrow and everything else wrapped up over the weekend.

And this one includes a steel rule as a reminder of the size of this kit.

The decals are on and the remaining parts have been primed and are ready for final painting, it's just a matter of fixing all of that in place once that job has been finished. Here are a few shots of how things look now the decals are in place.

I can't see me getting much more done today, so I think that will be it for this year. Let me take this opportunity to thank all those who have patiently followed and commented on my builds throughout the past 12 months, I hope that you have had as much fun looking in as I have in building them.

Finally a Happy New Year to all out there, wherever and however you are celebrating, enjoy yourselves, stay safe, and let's hope that 2022 starts to see some signs of things returning to a form of normality.

Regards

John

You ended the year on a high John, your F-14 is looking terrific!

Thanks very much Gerard, hope that you had a good night bud. We are coming to the end of our New Year celebrations and have just said goodnight to our son. He lives over in the Netherlands, but his wife is over in Kosovo visiting her family at the moment, so we have arranged to have a virtual meal with him tomorrow. This internet thingy is amazing but I don't think it will ever catch on.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

I finished adding the last bits to this a short while ago and so I am calling this done. I will give it a final brush off and take photos for the gallery tomorrow, but in the meantime ...

Cheers John - It's not quite the same as being there in person but the internet is great at connecting people who are physically remote - as the Britmodeller community shows!

Super impressive! Between my eyesight and fumble fingers I’m not sure how you build in 1/144!

Thanks again Gerard. As fellow Britmodeller @jean already knows, my ability to model in 1/144 is down to my specialist eyewear.

Superb work and an elegant Tomcat pairing with no all-over grey in sight!

Cheers Tim. I like to add a splash of colour if/when I can.
