Harvin87
Hello fellow modelers! I'm an amateur modeler, actually I will be using PE for the first time. My first models -1/700 Prince of Wales, 1/700 Yamato, 1/350 Hood- are all out of the box builds. Now, it's time for me to jump to the big leagues, PE. For that I will build a Tamiya 1/350 Fletcher. I have some questions if you can help me... Glue: What type of glue is best for this? Painting: I'm a brush painter, are regular model paints (tamiya, revell...etc) good for this? or do I need other type/special paints? Any general advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Adm Lord De Univers
Hello Harvin, I've been following the below build and I must say the pe work is quite outstanding (although there are other examples of a similar level on this site). I also recently asked for some further info on @Gisbod's method (and which he gave, I think, on page 15): I'm in a similar position and purchased Tamiya's tugger set and some associated pe for that to test out before taking the jump to more expensive models. For my test subjects I did use a primer coat, although I also airbrush. Strictly I dont know if its needed. On some I used a specific photoetch primer first too, but there doesnt appear to be much difference so far. Basically, hopefully others will have more info than me so we can both learn. GrzeM
Hi! The best guide "how to" deal with PE I know is on the Polish KFS-Miniatures.com modeling portal. Although the text is in Polish, photos are clear and say it all. Cutting and preparation: https://www.kfs-miniatures.com/poradnik-wycinanie-i-obrobka-elementow-fototrawionych/ Glueing (Cyanoacrylate glue): https://www.kfs-miniatures.com/poradnik-klejenie-elementow-fototrawionych/ ...and cleaning CA glue excess with CA debonder (quite important thing, belive me!): https://www.kfs-miniatures.com/poradnik-czyszczenie-elementow-fototrawionych-debonder/ Special episode about PE railings: https://www.kfs-miniatures.com/poradnik-fototrawione-relingi/ You may translate the text with the Google translator.
