Outstanding news, I've grown old waiting for Tamiya early Merlin lineup, and if its close to WNW overall quality we're in for a treat.

Still don't understand how Tamiya was not able in more than a decade to fully exploit Mk.IX.c tooling, since (as already mentioned ) tooling was designed to enable Mk.I/V kits down the line.

Have Tamiya ever fully exploited the tooling of their aircraft kits? They haven’t with a lot of their kits anyway.

I love how we're always moaning 'Oh not another Spitfire/109/Mustang'

But when something like this comes along we're begging for more.

If they follow up with the rest of the baby Spits, early 109's and maybe, just maybe an early Mustang - we're gonna go nuts.

Cheers,

Majorly wishlisting here but... Defiant plz.

We still have stock of the 32nd Expo decals to go with it 😀

...And a great decal sheet it is too, especially for a RAF Hornchurch nut like myself. Still got my 1/32 sheet. I've been lovingly guarding it for the right kit to come along. I had my hopes on the Revell kit, but I think this Kotare Spit will be getting the Expo decals now.

The split of the Tamiya MkIX facilitates a Mk1 or V. Split wing fillet, post on rudder etc.

Nah, don't think so. No raised rivets, completely different wings and the cockpit is not the same. Almost a completely new tooled kit IMHO.

We will agree to differ. There are plenty of elements of the kit design that make no sense if you are just making a two speed Merlin version.

This brightened up my day no end, a Spitfire Mk.I made to WNW standards, how could I resist, despite my display cabinet shelves being crammed with Spitfires.

Cheers

Hopefully this will be the money-spinner which allows them to do something interesting. Trying to look on the positive side.

Sorry mate, they have to cover ALL the Spitfire variants first, including PR and Seafires. Let’s see, early, mid and late production Mk I’s, Mk Ib/Mk IIb, Mk IIa/IIa ASR/IIa LR, then the Mk V’s - Va/Vb/Vc, then the Mk VI, then the long nose Merlins. There we have ….. 😉 😇

Fair enough and I hope you are right because you can never have too many Spitfires.

Well, I'm happy for all you Spitfire guys.

Couldn't have said it better myself, @Sabrejet. Perhaps predictable that ex Wingnuts personnel would go mainstream after the demise. I am surprised that the subject of a BofB Spit has not been offered for so long, so at least the choice of subject is a bit refreshing from that perspective.

So my dream of an injection moulding of my beloved Blackburn Blackburn in 1/48 remains unrequited, then? C'est la vie, mes amis %~))

Shall we play price tag bingo? I imagine this will sit somewhere around the £130 mark?

That's kind of the price I had in mind too. I wonder if, like WNW, these will only be available direct from Kotare?

While at the outset WNW kits could only be ordered direct from the manufacturer in New Zealand, after a while they became available from quite a few retailers.....

Thanks for the info. I only managed to pick up one WNW kit, the Sopwith Snipe, and that was fairly early on. I'd been under the misconception that you could only order direct.

I do “get” the it’s not another Spitfire/ 109/ Mustang groan response but in this particular case I would argue that doesn’t apply and the guys at Kotare have been very clever.   I suspect they have worked out that for their first model to the market they needed a product that was popular and would command decent sales so they wouldn’t fall at the first commercial hurdle. So what do they see?  Look at the obvious candidates and there are 109 E and G s all over and more Mustang D’s than you build in a lifetime. Moreover there are very good examples already on the shelves. Ok so the Spitfire then. Tamiya have centre stage with their kits in 1/32 but wait a minute where is the Battle of Britain iconic 1/32 kit that’s bound to be in every manufacturer catalogue?  Nowhere.

Yes you have the ancient Revell offering and their later and much criticised Mk11 but apart from that? Nowt, nothing.

So a hole in the market with a subject with universal appeal. From a new manufacturer perspective what could be better to generate interest and sales. Hell, I will want two and if they do an early version for the Battle of the Forth then another one after that.   But my purchases won’t make them a fortune but there is a bigger market out there than specialist hobby modellers and a bigger scale BoB Spitfire should appeal to that wider audience.

So I suspect some marketing lessons have been taken on board. Would I like a 1/32 Fairey Battle? Oh yes but I’d make a 1/32 BoB Spit to sell to market any day if I was a businessman

Trevor, you have wondering now- exactly what are Tamiya concentrating on in 1/32?  Not exactly having a prolific output there. Still when they do it’s a goodie but there feels like huge spaces in between

Can one argue the 1/32 big boy is (shudder) Trumpeter?  Yes yes at the back we know about their minor accuracy failings cough, ahem

Anyway on topic - good luck guys and 603 decals would be good in the box. Top squadron and not sure if there are still loads of those decals available still?  Get em while you can

Yes - it would be nice to see some Richard Hillary 603 Sqn markings - if not in the box, then from a decal printer

I do wonder why there was this gaping hole in the market. I am sure UK sales will be good as with sales with oldies in the new world. Kotare are not going to release any target sales figures but why the gap in the market.

PS it will sell better than Manfred Von's Albatros though.

The previously mentioned Southern Expo 1/32 Hornchurch sheet has Brian Carbury's markings included.
