nimrod54
Since my last posting I have sorted out the bonnet - sanding back the paint until I had removed the marks, then a light coat of primer before the gloss white coats went on. Just a wet sand is required now to get it ready for the decals. by John L, on Flickr I have made some good progress today too, the engine and radiator have been fixed in position and after cleaning up the parts, I assembled the roll cage in situ then removed it for some paint along with some of the smaller details that I need to fit before moving onto the next stage. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr I have fitted a couple of the detail parts to the boot (trunk) compartment, neither of which will be seen again unless you plan to make the body shell removeable. Other parts require further painting before they are fixed in place., the two pink items are fire extinguishers and 'Pink is the Word' according to @Hockeyboy76 when needing to paint anything red. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr Talking of H, during the summer, he kindly supplied me with a spare Mark 1 Models 1/144th Me 262B, so as a bit of a diversion from not being able to paint things black due to rain yesterday, I made a start on assembling it and after some primer this morning, this is where I have got to so far. Cheers buddy, this is a great little kit. by John L, on Flickr Anyway, after that short detour, let's get back to the main topic, the seats for the Escort will also get a bit of dressing up with a set of fabric harness rather than the decals supplied. by John L, on Flickr Cheers. trickyrich
a few dramas but she seems to be coming along nicely. I do like those seat belts! They'll give the inside a nice look, plus clever with the "suspension mods".
nimrod54
Thanks Rich. Whilst I have been working on a second Tomcat, this one has been ticking along in the background and I have been slowly 🐌 adding the decals. The main stripes are on and I've got most of the sponsors decals in place, just one side and a few around the front to complete that job. There are also a few gaps around the wheel arches to fill, but the kit comes with three strips of spare decal to help patch things up. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr I have also been trying to establish the anchor point for the racing harness shoulder straps that go through the back of the seats, in modern rally cars I think that the straps are usually fixed to a horizontal section of the roll cage structure, but the roll cage in this case only has a diagonal cross support at the rear and (if correct) I don't think that it would be a suitable anchor point for both seats. The photos that I have found so far don't show enough of the area behind the seats to establish where they are fixed, so I would be grateful for any assistance from the other motorsport fans out there. Cheers John

nimrod54
The chassis and interior is almost complete, a few parts to add to the engine bay to finish things off. Having failed to find clear photos of the belt anchors, I decided to forego the fabric belts and use the kit decals instead. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr I still have to finish the decals on the body and the window rubbers have to be painted, after that I can add the last of the parts such as bumpers, light lenses and wipers etc. - but who can resist a test fit. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr Merry Christmas to all. Thanks guys, I hope you both enjoyed your Christmas and New Year festivities. Mrs N and I should have had a break with our son and daughter-in-law in the Netherlands, but decided to stay put in the UK in the end. Hopefully we will meet up around the Easter break. I completed the decaling stage on Friday then added lights, glass and bumpers to the body yesterday. This morning I fixed the mirrors, windscreen wipers and the aerial in position - the kit only supplies the base for this, the rod part you have to make, I used a section of stretched sprue. Having decided to leave the body loose for now, I fixed the bonnet to the body using Glue 'n' Glaze in case I want to switch things around. I have also decided to search for a suitable set of wheels and tyres to replace the slicks supplied with the kit, which I am sure would not be the tyre of choice for road/forest stages in the UK during a November rally event - even for a very talented Finn. Anyway, the completion of that work this morning wrapped things up for this build. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr It has been a few years since a built a car model and whilst this is not an easy build, due mainly to the amount of parts clean up required, it does make up into nice model and I have really enjoyed putting this one together. The decals are quite resilient and fit the body well, the gaps on my build were down to the end user but there are sections of the three main colours for patching up. Thanks to Rich for hosting this GB which has been a lot of fun, and to all of you who have been patient enough to follow along. Until next time. stevehnz
Good idea about the wheels/tyres John, some knobblies would help the look, something I need to look into as well, I've a Fiat 124 to do as a NZ rally one & slicks are definitely not the go out here. desert falcon
That’s a fantastic looking Escort John 👍 My first two cars were Escort Mk. II‘s. The first one was stock but the second one had a 1.3L tuned Kent engine and a 2“ exhaust system with a fantastic sound. It was metallic blue with white Brazil rims, man those were the days
trickyrich
Well done on completing her John, she looks great, lovely work. A great addition to the build and some nice to have another rally car in the gallery. I'm glad you enjoyed the change of build type, this is the sort of stuff we all need to do to keep us on our toes! Anyway I hope you enjoyed yourself, it was a real pleasure to have you along.
