Procopius
I was looking to maybe get a custom display base made with the crest of 2TAF on it, but all the examples I see are postwar. Was there a wartime version of the badge?
Seawinder
I can't imagine why the badge would have changed after its inception, presumably during the war. If you're looking at the badge being displayed on aircraft, I don't think that happened much, if at all, until the war was over.
bentwaters81tfw
Drop a line to he has my copy of the wartime history of 2TAF, there may be something in that. Alert Brainfart Bish has my copy of 2 Group in WW2

Well, the postwar badge's motto is "Keeping the Peace", which seems stunningly inappropriate for a wartime formation. I just want it to put on a wooden display base, not the model.
SteveBrooking
Did you Google? There is an image of the badge on the Wikipaedia page. You may need to check with Air Historical Branch to get a more substantial copy...

Yes, the postwar badge, with the postwar motto and queen's crown.

That I would venture is a @Chris Thomas question, as one of the authors of a 4 part work on the 2nd TAF, he'd be a good chap to ask.

Blimpyboy
I did find some 2TAF 'merch' that shows the badge with a King's crown, but couldn't find any information regarding the timeframe or history of those badges (I note that the motto in the merch is 'keepers of the peace', which doesn't jibe with a wartime formation). Just a random, uninformed guess - maybe 2TAF didn't get their badge authorised until shortly after the Big One. I can only assume there's some information in the UK's/RAF's heraldry records that may provide the information you seek. Rob G
Trying again, for the 9th (seriously) time, including 3 attempts at sending a PM. Given the requirements for the issuing of an RAF badge, it's not a big surprise that 2.TAF didn't get one during the war - they may have had other things to occupy their time... The one that's been found (above) wasn't issued until January 1953, which will explain the somewhat un-warlike motto. More info about 2.TAF's badge here http://www.rafht.co.uk/index.php/2016/06/21/second-tactical-air-force-2nd-taf/ And some gen on RAF badges and the process for awarding of same https://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/blog/heraldic-badges-in-the-raf/ HTH, even if it's not 'good' news. Edit: Holy Batcows, it worked!
