I was really thinking about getting this kit but know, i think i will pass. It's beyond my skill right no matter how much i love the Viggen. Which is a shame really. But i love the work you are doing to this beast i look forward to every update.

Thanks mate :D

you will get there some day, only way to improve as a modeller is to have the courageĀ to fail. If you only stay in your comfort zone it will be hard to grow or evolve as a modeller. šŸ˜‰

True, when I was playing chess in school, I learned more from loosing to better players then by winning against weaker players...Ā

Sanding.....filling.....yeah!

Ā

Finally Friday, and I have TWO updates for you today. ItĀ“s because my hobbyroom has to be empty by Sunday so the floorer can do his flooring on monday.

Ā

Ā

OK...

ItĀ“s moving forwards at least....

This is where I left off and now it has cured a for a few days and itĀ“s time to sand...

Ā

IMG_5383.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

First round of sanding with 120 Grit and 320 grit, I know details will be lost but that the next fun stage of restoring lost details after the wing joints are blended in to my satisfaction.

Ā

IMG_5384.JPG

Ā

IMG_5385.JPG

Ā

IMG_5386.JPG

Ā

IMG_5387.JPG

Ā

IMG_5388.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Then some primer again to give me the honest truth....

Not so bad actually of course itĀ“ll need another round of filling... it doesnĀ“t seem as an inhumanly impossible task at least.

Ā

IMG_5389.JPG

Ā

IMG_5390.JPG

Ā

IMG_5391.JPG

Ā

IMG_5392.JPG

Ā

IMG_5393.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

This time round I try some acryllic putty, I tried using a cotton swab but I removed too much putty so IĀ“ll let it cure in place and use some wetĀ“n dry to sand later.

IMG_5394.JPG

Ā

IMG_5395.JPG

Ā

IMG_5396.JPG

Ā

Well enough for today.... Sorry I couldnĀ“t give you a more exciting updateĀ

Cheers!

YES....continious sanding and filling!

The sanding continue...

Ā

This is the state after todays sanding session...

Ā

IMG_5397.JPG

Ā

IMG_5398.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

After sanding another coat of primer.... looks better but there are still small holes and defects. Oh yeah and that corner of the right wing root that have snapped at some point.

Ā

IMG_5399.JPG

Ā

IMG_5400.JPG

Ā

IMG_5401.JPG

Ā

IMG_5402.JPG

Ā

IMG_5403.JPG

Ā

IMG_5404.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Well that leaves me with another round of filling.... out with the tammy putty again!

Ā

IMG_5405.JPG

Ā

IMG_5406.JPG

Ā

IMG_5407.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

OK, I have to do something else than sanding and filling or IĀ“ll nuts!

Part two

Ā

Hmmm...the canopy and windscreen looks pretty alright....but they can still improve!

IMG_5408.JPG

Ā

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/cc63/Aigore/IMG_5409.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Out with the Tammy fine compound!

Ā

IMG_5411.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

The windshield is polished...you can see the difference between the canopy and the windshield.

Ā

IMG_5412.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

After both were polished I washed them in fingerwarm water and detergent to remove dust, oils and leftovers of compound.

Ā

IMG_5415.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Then I took a shot!

Nah, itĀ“s a mixture of future/klear with a 1/5th windex. The windex makes the future flow evenly. And I dipped the Ā clear parts until I was happy :D

Ā

IMG_5416.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

And this is how crystal clear the got :D

I always dip my clear parts, not only because the get so clear but for itĀ“s protective properties as well....and it doesnĀ“t fog up Ā by CA-glue.

Ā

IMG_5417.JPG

Ā

IMG_5418.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

ThatĀ“s all I got for you today!

Ā

Cheers!

Always look at the bright side of life...

Yes, the sanding continues...

You donĀ“t get away with anything in this scale! And after I hav a nice blend to the fuselage I will have to redraw lost details before I can get to fixing the fit at the rear to the tail cone :P

Ā

Ā

The result after todays sanding, only using 300 grit and finer now.

Ā

IMG_5419.JPG

Ā

IMG_5420.JPG

Ā

IMG_5421.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

And checking with primer, looks better but there are still things to fix.

IMG_5422.JPG

Ā

IMG_5423.JPG

Ā

IMG_5424.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

The tip of the wing roots still needs fixing, thinking of going with CA glue when IĀ“ve blended the wings.

Ā

IMG_5425.JPG

Ā

IMG_5426.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Time to fill the bad spots...

IMG_5427.JPG

Ā

Ā

IMG_5428.JPG

Ā

Ā

IMG_5429.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

After all the necessary evil I wanted to glue stuff together!

Part 2

Ā

I cut the rudders from the casting blocks...without snapping anything off (yay)

Ā

IMG_5430.JPG

Ā

IMG_5431.JPG

Ā

IMG_5432.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Glued the rudder to the tail fin

Ā

IMG_5433.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Added the Ā actuator housing.

Ā

IMG_5434.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

And dry fitted the fin...this wonĀ“t cause any problems at least !

IMG_5435.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Next I added the housings to the flaps. The flaps on JA are different from the AJ family because the slats move as one and have an extra actuator and the inner and outer flaps are joined. Jetmads could have done the flaps as one piece.

Ā

IMG_5436.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Then I glued in the actuator housings to the wings. the outer most is the extra one Ā on the JA.

IMG_5437.JPG

Ā

IMG_5438.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Last I did a dry fit of the Oerlikon KCA pack... will need some work too but I canĀ“t put it into place until the fuselage is joined.

IMG_5439.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

That was all for today! The progress has slowed down somewhat but soon the fuselage joining will happen and then it gets interesting again!

Cheers!

Is that a light I see at the end of the tunnel?

Ā

I's Sunday and time for some news for you again :D

Ā

Ā

Ok, done sanding.....I hope. DonĀ“t know until itĀ“s primed!

IMG_5455.JPG

Ā

IMG_5456.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

IĀ“ll be darned....it actually looks good, still things to do but the blending into the fuselage is done. Now I have to fix the blending at the rear and fix the damages....and restore all details.....ugh.

Part 2

Well all that has to wait, now IĀ“ll deal with this scary thing!

I need to remove the windshield from the castingblock without ruining anything!

IMG_5463.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

So of course I brought forward The Dremel! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Ā

IMG_5464.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ziiing! and it was off the casting block!

IMG_5465.JPG

Ā

Ā

To remove the flash I scribe with a knife alonf the frame on the outside and the inside.

Ā

IMG_5466.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

And then the scary part when I use pliers to break off the flash!

So far so good!

Ā

IMG_5467.JPG

Ā

Ā

and the other side...

Ā

IMG_5468.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

But when removing the front part my luck ran out and I got a small crack into the frame!! I removed the rest of the flash by sanding!

Ā

IMG_5469.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

The fit into the fuselage was extrodinary good however....in fact it stuck there without glue!

Ā

IMG_5470.JPG

Ā

IMG_5471.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Next it was time to mask it on the outside and the inside.

IMG_5472.JPG

Ā

IMG_5473.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Shot Alclad black primer along the frames inside and outside

IMG_5474.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Removed the masking on the inside.

Ā

IMG_5475.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

And stuck it into place.

Ā

IMG_5476.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Finally I masked the cockpit first with tack-it rolls and then with tape.

Ā

IMG_5477.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

IMG_5478.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

and that was it for today! Some boring scribing to do tomorrow...

Ā

Cheers!

Not just me then... I get twitchy just removing injection moulded transparencies from their sprues, never mind having to bring out the power tools for slithers of resin!

Ā

@Aigore, let me know if you decide to make another one, I'll start buying up shares in sandpaper manufacturers...

LoL, haven't spent that much sanding paper.....more putty tho so my tip is to put your money on putty!

Ā

Yeah, usually I just glue on the canopy temporarily with the details on the sills I couldn't glue on that, so tack-itĀ  it was.

IĀ“m a scriber man and IĀ“m ok....

Oh my, almost forgot it's friday and time for an update!

Yet another necessary step is to restore all that was lost during the sanding....

This is another chore that I loathe, perhaps because IĀ“m not really that good at it.

These ar the weapons of choice: Tamiya scriber, an awl, a scratch tool, knife, Tamiya bendy tape and Dymo tape

Ā

IMG_5479.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Put the bendy tape along the upper edge of the wing fillet.

Ā

IMG_5480.JPG

Ā

IMG_5482.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

And made a Ā gazillion soft soft pulls with the Tammy scriber, that seems to be a bit Ā dull šŸ˜•

Ā

IMG_5481.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Next I did the panellines in the fillet and restored rivets too.

Ā

IMG_5483.JPG

Ā

IMG_5484.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

And restored lost fuselage and wing details

Ā

IMG_5485.JPG

Ā

IMG_5486.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Now I have a few blemishes to take care of....

Ā

IMG_5487.JPG

Ā

IMG_5488.JPG

Ā

IMG_5489.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

I decided to start with the tail....felt easiest :P

I masked up for putty and then I added green stuff generously and removed the masks.

Part 2

Now I was quite fed up with putty and scribing...I need to glue something!

Ā

That something ended up to be the wing pylons.

I simply broke them off the castingblock, the were attached really thinnly, like flash.

Ā

IMG_5492.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Cleaned up the parts...

Ā

IMG_5493.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Found a tiny airbubble in one of the pylons, fixed it real fast with green stuff.

Ā

IMG_5494.JPG

Ā

IMG_5495.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

And the pylons ready to go on.

Ā

IMG_5496.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

They fit quite well....whew :P

Ā

IMG_5497.JPG

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

Ā

And all four are on... now IĀ“ll let the kit rest until tomorrow....when I start sanding again :P

IMG_5498.JPG

Cheers!
