And Sunday is upon us and you get an update!

Weathering part 2

OK, here is where I left yester day..... I feel it´s over weathered. I don´think I have good enough lights in my hobbyroom.

Well let´s do it severly over weathered....The decades haven't been nice to this jet in it's reality!

IMG_5971.JPG

Time for pigments!

I like this City Dark Dust pigment...sort of a generally dirty feel :P

IMG_5972.JPG

There after a first dusting.

IMG_5973.JPG

Next  for some grime coming off joints and rivets.

IMG_5974.JPG

Then some dark pigments around hatches and stuff.

IMG_5975.JPG

IMG_5976.JPG

Then some scaving with zinc chrome yellow on a sponge followed by aluminium on leading edges.

IMG_5977.JPG

IMG_5978.JPG

IMG_5979.JPG

Then I finish todays session with another flat coat to seal everything .

Almost done with the fuselage now it needs some detail painting here and there and then antennas and probes...not to mention an under carriage and loadout :D

I got some bad news from Master

No turned brass pitot tubes for Viggen in 1/32 are planned by Master.

I have asked Maestro too but still waiting for an answer.

The Friday update is upon you!

Nosey Geary...

Hot damn, I'm running out of space, fast!

IMG_5995.JPG

Ok, let's begin with small stuff...

I brush painted the tires with flat black

IMG_5996.JPG

And the belly brakes got some flat rust...

IMG_5997.JPG

The antenna behind the cockpit was painted in dayglo orange.

IMG_5998.JPG

the IFF antennas and the temperature probe in alclad steel.

IMG_5999.JPG

Alfa probe in aluminium and the fighterlink antenna in alclad steel.

IMG_6000.JPG

The extra tank got weathered and flat coated,

IMG_6001.JPG

Time for todays real project, the nose gear.

This is how I left it.

IMG_6002.JPG

I used citadel metal paints for warhammer to paint the different metallic hues all over the strut.

IMG_6005.JPG

IMG_6006.JPG

IMG_6007.JPG

Gloss coated and put down a darkish wash to make the details pop a bit.

IMG_6008.JPG

I put on the wheels an flat coated the whole thing and dusted some pigment on the tires.

IMG_6009.JPG

IMG_6010.JPG

Cheers!

That nosegear is perfection itself. Bravo!

Thanks TheBaron :D

Picking off the different hues in the strut really makes it pop and makes it look busy.

You obviously are an artist! Great results you are getting!!

Thanks exdraken :D

I do like making struts...nice struts on a kit makes the whole seem so much better just like with a realy nice cockpit pops by adding a resin seat.

Right, Sunday again and time for a report.

Wheeling dealings

Time to get the main gears done!

Here are the struts as they look at the beginning of todays session.

A total Viggen nerd imediately spots a big nono....besides me not cutting off the last print support.

Yeah I experimented with a chrome pencil on one of the struts...wasn't happy with the result.

IMG_6021.JPG

Ok, the problem is this little box, it is the fuel control panel and it's only present on the right strut... so off with it!

IMG_6022.JPG

I reprimed the struts in black and then put on a coat of gloss black....and added the piece of kable I cut off along the fuel control panel.

IMG_6025.JPG

IMG_6024.JPG

THen I painted it all in Alclad airframe aluminium to have a great metal base.

IMG_6026.JPG

Then I shot Alclad polished aluminium on top of all the oleos and other shiny parts and a bit of magnesium and steel on some details.

IMG_6027.JPG

IMG_6029.JPG

To do something else I decided to cut the ladder free of the printing supports...thought I'd get by with this wild idea without breaking anything.

IMG_6030.JPG

Huh, who knew....nothing broken!

IMG_6031.JPG

Back to the struts and some tricky masking....would have been easier if the strut wasn't printed in one glorius piece.

IMG_6032.JPG

IMG_6033.JPG

I shot some FS36322 on top and unmasked.

IMG_6035.JPG

Next detail painting with Citadel  Leadbelcher on the darker metal pieces and some dark gray on the cables. Then some details with brushpainting on chromesilver from the pencil....it is solvable in acrylic thinner,  who knew. :P

IMG_6037.JPG

With the details painted on the struts I had a look at the wheels.... added a small red decal  next to the hub. I just cut up a red decal since there wasn't any decals for the wheels in the box.

IMG_6038.JPG

Glued oin the wheels and gloss coated them

IMG_6039.JPG

Next  a few washes and some pigment before  I put down a flat coat and sealed it all.

IMG_6040.JPG

The wheels are done!

IMG_6041.JPG

Cheers!

Yes, I almost forgot the Friday update but here it comes!

It stands!

Time to put on the legs on this beast!

It wasn´t a snug fit so I had to sand off a bit to  make this two  pronged fork fit in the nose bay.

IMG_6042(2).JPG

With a very satisfying "CHUNK" the nose gear popped into place.....lovely.

IMG_6043(2).JPG

Hmmm...what´s this in the groove?

IMG_6044(2).JPG

Hehehe...turned out to be some left over tack-it by my own device....whoops.

IMG_6045(1).JPG

No satisfying "CHUNK" this time but the struts fits securely into the wheel bays.

IMG_6046(1).JPG

And the other one in place as well!

IMG_6047(1).JPG

IT STANDS!

IMG_6048(1).JPG

IMG_6049(1).JPG

Enough of that...

I glued in the  big doors, when a Viggen is parked they are closed but a bit ajar.

IMG_6050(1).JPG

IMG_6051(1).JPG

Yeah yeah, here´s a few more pics of the standing Viggen :P

IMG_6052(1).JPG

IMG_6053(1).JPG

IMG_6054(1).JPG

There...

Well what's left to do now?

A lot of small stuff to begin with, antennas, lights, rear radar sensor, pitottubes and probes. The slightly bigger stuff are the canopy and the weapons, oh and the rest of the landing bay doors and the ladder.

Cheers!

Looks amazing to me. I’m looking at the photos and wondering how big your desk is in order to accommodate the real thing :)

Thanks Marklo :D

it's huuuuuge :P

It looks fabulous. The small stuff always adds that final accuracy to the model. Great landing gear, BTW.

Thanks Pete :D

Indeed the details makes the whole believable

Getting closer to the goal – I admire your stamina.

I always find the Viggen has skinny legs for such a big aircraft. I guess the impression will change once the remaining doors are in place.

Thanks Electric Indigo :D

Actually  viggen has quite sturdy legs, they where designed for a drop speed of 7 meters per second, it's comparable to carrier based aviation with their 9 to 10 meters per second. Though the rumour has it that there was a special prize for pilotss who managed to punch the struts through the wings........

I agree also, and always satisfying when something with multiple wheels stands with all of them on the ground.

Thanks Biggles87 :D

indeed....and on the weighted parts of the tires :)

And then it was sunday and time to realease another update.

Details, everywhere!!!

I´ll use the day to right wrongs and create new ones.....

However I started with cleaning the windscreen. Nice , eh?

IMG_6073.JPG

IMG_6074.JPG

On to the messy dielectric panel on the spine.

IMG_6075.JPG

The good thing with painting laquer on top an acrylic varnish is that you simply take a swab, dip it in turpentine and just rub away the offending color. Do varnish you kit when you are happy with something you´ve added it might save your bacon later on!

IMG_6076.JPG

Mask, paint, unmask ...done!

IMG_6077.JPG

IMG_6078.JPG

Then I glued the windshield in place with some white glue.

IMG_6079.JPG

Added the small red antenna behaind the cockpit....

IMG_6080.JPG

And a position light, there is one more antenna that goes on the spine but it's so thin I don't want to risk it yet...I´ll save it for final touches, same with the alfa- probe and temperature probe.

IMG_6081.JPG

NOw it´s time for belly rubbing...added the airbrakes, remember these are bolted shut on the JA but not on the AJ!

IMG_6082.JPG

Forward and rear IFF antennas. they are not a drop fit so do dry fit and sand until the drop into place.

IMG_6084.JPG

IMG_6083.JPG

Added some grime on the landingbay doors as to blend them in with the rest of the fuselage.

IMG_6085.JPG

Then I glued in the nose wheelbay door actuators.

IMG_6086.JPG

On with the little  supports for the air inlets... they do need a little  fiddling before they fit.

IMG_6087.JPG

Hmm I miss a support that goes on the underside....

IMG_6088.JPG

Out with the plasticard and make a new one.

IMG_6089.JPG

And glue them into place.

IMG_6090.JPG

And when it was time to paint the insides of the remaining  wheel well doors I managed to break a door!

A long stream of profanities exited my mouth....

IMG_6091.JPG

Then I repaired it.......

IMG_6092.JPG

I don't want to end on an angry note so I finish todays session with a sweet pic.

IMG_6093.JPG

Cheers!
