Marklo
I’m much more usually to be found over in the Aircraft sections of the forums, but I do love the odd AFV build, I picked up this kit last week for only €13 and I decided to start it right away as a bit of a mental break from all the airplanes I’m currently trying to build. I’m going to build a captured example as I reckon it will be a nice complement to my T34 which is finished in 4BO. Last year’s Tamiya T34. Started on assembling the hull. It’s actually quite a nice little kit.
Marklo
Sprayed silver. Hairspray next. I’m going to spray hull red next, then 4BO then Panzer grey with a generous coat of hairspray between each colour. Then selectively chip back to 4BO, primer or bare metal. A somewhat similar approach was used for the T34.
Marklo
A coat of hull red and more hairspray.
Marklo
4B0 more hairspray next then the Panzer grey. I’m tempted to stick with the 4BO as it looks really good, but the Panzer gray will look a little different on the shelf so I’ll probably stick with that. Marklo
First coat of panzer grey. Deliberately patchy, my thought is that if it were resprayed in a forward repair depot it would be a bit rough. I’ll probably do a bit of modulation with lighter and dark shades then for some fun with chipping and weathering. Marklo
I’ve been putting off tackling the tracks as it’s the first tank I’ve built with styrene segments rather than the traditional polythene loop. Needless to say I’ve managed to damage some of the individual links and the carpet monster got a road wheel, so I’ve taken a mold of track segments and s road wheel and I’m going to resin cast some spares. more to follow.
Marklo
Tracks including resin replacements and resin road wheel fitted but not painted. Overall a lot more effort needed than the rubber band type tracks but I have to admit they do look much better. So next, paint the tracks, finish the Panzer grey and do some weathering…
Marklo
Panzer grey on, I’ve done a bit of modulation with a darker mix of grey but the photo doesn’t show it that well. Touch up on the road wheels and tracks then it’s into chipping and weathering.

Marklo
Weathering, bear with me this may get complicated As this was captured and used in Stalingrad I’m going for a scruffy but reasonably clean look. I. E. plenty of wear and tear but not too much mud or grime. First scrubbed and sanded back to green, red oxide and bare metal. Some rust to tone down the bright bare metal courtesy of AK interactive rust. Next some AK streaking grime. Decals ( which I probably should have applied first, but not to worry) and some AK streaking winter grime. Finally a liberal coat of crushed chalk pastels mixed with white spirit over the tracks running gear and lower chassis. This dries a pale colour and then I can brush it back with a dry brush to the level of dust I want. Now we wait… Edited November 14, 2021 by Marklo
