psdavidson
Tap tap. is this thing on? Hopefully I'm donig it right If I don't get a move on, I'll never finish in time. For my first ever GB (and WIP) on BM, I'll attempt to build a Revell Twin Otter. I was planning an OOB build, but while I was seaching for window masks, I found these I have no connection with Norway although my parents did know some people over there. I'll do the second scheme (hopefully anyway), assuming that at the end of my building attempt there are the requisite number of wings, wheels engines and cockpits. There are modifications mentioned in the decal instructions, but will (choose to) ignore them Wish me luck, I'm going in......
Paul J
Cool. At first I thought it was going to be a military one. But a nice civvy one is very welcome. Beware of the weak wheel/axle assembly!!!!!! It might be wise to try and 'pin' it with something more sturdy as I have done with my builds of the same kit.
dnl42
Nice choice! If only there was a 1/48 version. Or not, that would lead to stash growth...

I've got a civil one going as well, and they should look smart. Yes, the axle stubs do look frail, but as I was cutting one off the sprue frame I cut in the wrong place and left most of the axle attached to the frame. So I had to do a makeover anyway, on one side. Now I'm looking at the intact axle on the other side and thinking maybe I ought to beef it up as well. Anyway, good luck with the build 👍 You've probably noticed already that the mould frames are emblazoned with the legend "PK127". So we're dealing with a Matchbox product of old

I'm sure it will be an experience to remember Work is slowly progressing Snips, knives and sanding sticks have been employed, and glue has been pointed in the direction of a few parts With hindsight, I should have painted and decalled the cockpit before assembly but, oh well, too late now. Fit isn't too bad but filler will be needed. Maybe by the weekend some primer will have been sprayed in the general vicinity. I also went out at the weekend and acquired a can of what seems to be highly recommended Halfords Appliance White, but should have got a tin of white primer as I only have grey. Thanks for looking Peter

psdavidson
Some progress has been made The interior has been primed Cockpit parts painted clear coated, decalled and attacked with chemicals I'm glad I'm not using the kit decals on the outside of the model The rest of the interior will just be left primed since most of it won't be seen, so hopefully a final clear coat on the decals then close everything up tomorrow, time permitting Peter
CliffB
It's nice to see this one coming together Peter . Interesting 'smudgy' decals - I think it's the first time that I've seen that particular fault on a decal sheet. Cheers
psdavidson
It's a bit dark in here, did someone switch the lights out. Ahem Work has been progressing occasionally. I almosed closed up the fuselage twice, first time before adding the glazing and second before adding weight but stopped in time Anyway, windows installed and masked, fuselage joined, needed some work Nose and windscreen attached horizontal bits in place The alignment was off, but some extra TET and gentle pressure straightened thing up a bit. Most of the other parts are ready to assemble. Peter
rob Lyttle
Good save, nose weight is definitely required!! That big flat roof is a bit of a challenge to sort out, isn't it? Good job 👍
psdavidson
Strange, I thought I'd posted another update. Never mind. Primer applied last week, and it's been blasted with Halfords Appliance White. At least I know it's not a tail-sitter Looks like the side window has been knocked in a bit. Hope I don't lose it inside..... I'll leave that to cure then nask up for the black.

Corsairfoxfouruncle
Shes looking good and me thinks very little actually gets used on appliances.
psdavidson
Well, that was fun Tyres now sprayed Black and prop stripes white. On to finishing the black on the wings. /p
psdavidson
Still can't understand why I did the white after the black. It would have been simpler and cost less tape the other way Edited November 12, 2021 by psdavidson forgot a bit at the end
psdavidson
Despite the early warnings and being very, very careful, this happened 💥 Several emergency orders for plastic and brass rod placed. The little black bit next to the wheels is a rear-view mirror, possibly from a Tamiya VW, which I found while trying to sort out the SoD for KUTA I may be able to fettle it onto something to hold the wheels on, just to get the build over the line for this GB /P
rob Lyttle
Yeah I'm having a bit of trouble with these as well, if that's any consolidation. They haven't come off but there is a definite tendency for the main gear to splay, even with the glue set overnight. That means the plastic is bending somewhere and we know how that is going to end. The leg I repaired much earlier (because I snipped the axle as I cut from the sprue..... 😶) is fairing better than the original one on the other side, but something will have to be done. Hats off to de Havilland Canada for making the design work on the real thing! Good luck sorting yours. 👍🤞

psdavidson
Sanded the bits to shape, but not too much as I don't want the same problem again (no pics) It'll do Dobbed over with white paint to cover the mess Once that's dry, - Gloss coat - Decals - Matt or satin coat? - Wheels and props on - Maybe some weathering? Done & dusted What could possibly go wrong /P
