Roman Schilhart
Dear fellow Britmodellers, here's my 1/72 Kovozávody Prostějov Lavochkin La-5 from 4th GIAP, flown by Y.Dimitri in summer 1943. I painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics, decals are from the box. All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. This is the updated version released by KP in 2020, which differs from the original 2015 boxing by finer surface details. The pitot tube was replaced by a piece of steel wire. I also replaced the tail fin antenna with stretched sprue. The sharkmouth was problematic to apply as it did not want to conform to the engine cowling. I had to use copious amounts of setting solution, pressing the decal onto the surface repeatedly with cotton buds. I was still left with some slight wrinkling. Thank you for your interest, best greetings from Vienna! Roman 35
VG 33
Hi Roman This is a very nice build. Now as you told us about the sharkmouth decal which is not easy to put I think a solution for the other modellers could be to cut the decals around the teeth and the lips and put these over a black background. Patrick Thank you for your comment, Patrick! Unfortunately the decals are brittle and tend to fray around the edges when cut in pieces. Masking and painting would be the perfect solution, but a very daring task, too!

I have the Clear Prop kit in the stash without any sharkmouth to do ! 😀 Patrick
Sky Keg
Roman, You and Wolfgang have teamed up for yet another outstanding presentation. Your usual high standards are evident and the complex “shark mouth” motif makes for an enjoyable subject to view. There`a lot to like about this KP La-5. 72modeler
Nice work! Bet you did have a time getting that sharkmouth to conform, but it came out very nicely! You should be proud of this one! Colors look spot-on. Might have to get the KP kit, as it looks like a good one. Any big issues in the build? Mike

Luis Alfonso
Hi My Friend Roman!!! Congratulations for this new build you have pushed towards finishing line in these busy times....really a great acheivement!!!. Nice to watch this new masterpiece emerging from your prestigious Skunk Works as usual: in wonderful way and with a nice finish, nice weathering and visually in great shape. I knew only the nice Italeri/Zvezda/Revell/Bilek bubble canopy kit and has two in my stash dreaming the just's sleep until one miracle happen...and was watching your nice build deals with the earlier variant canopy... so maybe one of these days will look for one as yours and will try to emulate your nice job. Thank you very much for sharing!!! Cheers!!! Luis Alfonso

Only thing I just did on mine is modify the intake on top of the cowling to be a bit more 'squared' (based on the ClearProp La-5 cowling), and add a strip of very thin plasticard on the bottom wing/rear fuselage join. It's very easy to sand off the sprue gate a bit too much
