Stridsvagn m/40K..Swedish Light Tank, IBG Models, 1/72nd scale OOB...

Recommended Posts

This'll be fun.  I like the quality of the IBG kits and this seems to be no change in regards to detail and quality.  Plus, a Swedish tank!

The Landsverk L-60 was originally developed in 1934 and came in a few different variants--m/38, 39, 40L and 40K.  I guess mine is the last series.  Looks fun and it will take some good skill to airbrush the camo!  And weathering!  Yay!

Here are some pictures...

And...I'm off!  I have decided to tackle panels 1-3 tonight.  That's the wheel assemblies, bogies, etc...

Lot's little teeny parts.  I used a fresh hobby blade and my micro-saw to get these off the sprue.  Almost lost the tail light.  It had skittered across the matt and hidden behind something...

The wheels are all two halves....so 40 individual pieces...all the suspension pieces were separate...very careful work I had to do.  At one point I had stopped breathing.

I leave it now until tomorrow...

Speaking of which...

I am off-island all next week until Saturday so while in Athens I'll visit the LHS, etc...first time to the mainland since last September.  Pandemic and lockdown, don't you know...

So I worked on the tank...

Steps 4,5, and 6...

51428011225_3c8a84f73d_c_d.jpg

Which ended up looking like this...

51427032591_cd213081f6_c_d.jpg

Not bad.  getting all the wheels straight was a pain.  Also, the mounts for the road wheels are a little thick for the holes, so I drilled a slight bit and everything fits and is in line.  I'l let that set for a few days before I attempt this...

Step 7...x2

In the meantime, I assembled the turret pieces.  Be very careful with theses pieces.  Some are extremely small and still need to be occasionally cleaned up from sprue gates.  Even though I used a micro saw to remove some, sanding was necessary.  Blue language too.  😁

If you do it right, you end up wth this:

I will leave all of this for next weekend when I return.

Nice work so far John. I started this one as a second build for Nordic I.

I actually got as far as you did. The tracks killed it for me, I ended up binning the thing! I'm sure you'll do better but I advise deep calming breaths before starting on them.

welcome along John....gosh if I was any slower finding this I may have missed it!!

What a nice wee tank model you have brought along to, and boy it looks to be very detailed as well....... lots of teeny wee bits to loose as well!

Good luck with the build, should be a fun one to follow. Plus enjoy you visit to the LHS and make sure you have plenty of room  for all your purchases! :D

...and delicate pieces tp break off...

So, back home.  Successful trip to the mainland in many ways.  Back at the Strindvagn.  Treads.  Wee little pieces...bigger pieces connecting them all...

51455664953_4fa400cf9f_c_d.jpg

Lots of extra pieces, btw...don't worry about the Carpet Monster.  Patience and tweezers.

Ok, not perfect, but close enough for this guy.  After all, this is the first tank I've built in 30 years...

While that dries I'll do this...

51456375090_eb2de3bd32_c_d.jpg

And finally I end up with all of this...

51454651077_9195c0ee0d_c_d.jpg

So I put it all together...

51456159379_d4940727b6_c_d.jpg

Looks very much like the thing I am trying to build!

51454650677_45c5826663_c_d.jpg

Now...painting.  I need advice.  In the old days I'd just paint it all by hand.  But I think I have seen this airbrush process:

1) Prime the whole build

2) airbrush the colours  (green/brown/black in that order)

3) hand paint/airbrush the tracks carefully

4) hand paint the tiny bits I need to pick out

5) decals + sealant

6) weathering, etc...

Is this correct?  It's too late to go back and take things apart.

Good job on the tracks John, you did way better than me, I applaude your patience.

Your painting plan makes sense to me, with the turret painted separately. It comes off, right?

It does come off.  Why paint it separately?  The camo seems to match up on the hull/turret.

Oh, well, I thought maybe you'd miss some spots on the hull, that's all.

wow, I keep forgetting this is only 1/72nd, It's detailed enough to be a 1/35th model!

Great work on her, those tracks would have done my head in....... though I do love putting together those metal FriulModel tracks....... but there again I'm a bit odd anyway!! :D

Good catch.  I did it anyway, as suggested!

t'll be good to see it in it's colours soon.

And here is the start.  The green.

I did the tracks too, a mix of NATO Black and Gunmetal.  Weathering etc, will fix up any of the rest.  I think I'll add the brown this evening, with the turret attached so the line is clean.  This will be tough folks.  Very fine lines.  I'll have to practice!
