My other build for this STGB...back to my youth being bought up in Lakenheath. My first model after many years (25 plus) was the Revell version of this - it was a bit rough, hand painted and

I thought it was time to redo this - albeit the Monogram boxing...a different airframe with a slight change in colouring for the tan....

Old build in 2014....

I may well steal the crew and cannibalise the old one once its build!!

No decals for the tub so will hand paint as best I can and break out the pilot in the old model!

Seem to be SUU-21 here, the Hase sets are SUU-20's...

Will build up some other buts where I can.

Yay! The other Tim's other build is other than paused. I was studying the photos and there seemed to be too many seats. Then I worked out that the monogram ones are split in half. That's a curious way to do it. And what I took to be severely underscale aftermarket seats are the other build? I don't think my brain could cope with two builds of the same a/c in different scales at the same time!

Apologies I just took a pic of it all on the table, easier to get the primer/airbrush out with all the parts together!!

Some more work done.

Raised panels will make seams a pain!

got the lighter tan green FS34201 Mr Paint through - not sure if it’s too dark - the RAF Sky may also be a candidate - will need to do some test shots - maybe even a mix !

Problem with raised panel lines is when trying to sort seams etc it ruins them...

A bit picture heavy with this post as I have got on with the paint job....

First up I got the strange green 'tan' mixed up using MRP Sky and the actual FS34201 in a 4:1 ratio....

iKbinbU.jpg

only image I could find of '721' Stbd side (in LN markings anyway!)

This colour seems ok?

lWD8lQA.jpg

using this 1/72 build to help a bit with the cam pattern as the Extradecals looks to be incorrect in some areas...

Cheap decorating masking tape and blu tac worms...

FS34102 on, again MRP:

This chart shows the colour difference of the greens - but MRP seems so close its quite hard to discern...

RCS047acryliclacquerset.jpg

paint Mule FS34079 top of wing, FS34102 lower...

more tape and worms!!

And darker Green FS34079 on....

FS30219 Tan in the areas where the LN tailcodes were painted around - hopefully they will fit!

Will try to get some gloss X22/MLT on tomorrow - half term leave and all that...managed to get some stencils for the period so hopefully decals soon. That said the ref pics show the LN airframe being depicted to not have many of the normal stencils?

Decals started

On the photo refs there’s little sign of all the stencils during this time period - some of the earlier LN pics do show them …. Any thoughts ? Should I go ahead and put them on?
