Tim Moff
Im in with a 1/72 (not my scale!) FG! in Raspberry Ripple - inspired by my Canberra SC1 in the Unarmed BG....mad? My trip to Japan for Tokyo 20 did mean I grabbed a bargain - at 1800Y (approx £12) I grabbed this box on impulse and safely packed it back to UK (along with a 1/200 Vulcan!)....I also grabbed my self a GSI CREOS Mr Airbrush SP-771 Custom 0.18 (a slightly updated version to the link below) for £80 less than in UK - just meant I ate noodles for a week! The kit is a variant of the well know Fujumi series - will need me to chop off the radome and put on a modified one (disaster possibly - I have a razor saw read to go!) Has some PE for a raised canopy (mine will be flying!) and metal wheels/rubber (wheels will be up!) - looks nice but the decals are not great so I have gone to Hannants for these... White looks a bit off etc... Wish me luck with the paint job! Plenty of references out there.... https://bpag.co.uk/projects/xt597/ https://abpic.co.uk/pictures/registration/XT597
Chrisj2003
@Tim Moff 3rd white plane on a row. Can you find pictures of this looking weathered? Chris
Bertie McBoatface
I was at Greenham Common in '83. There seemed to be dozens of F-4s. Thanks for bringing that memory back to me.

iainpeden
@Tim Moff - you might find this useful. She is now at Kemble - looking very weathered but part of a great project. https://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=79313

A good find (found a few good bargains when in Tokyo a few years ago) and good luck with the build.

Tim Moff
Some bits off the sprues, nose razor sawed off Any Fujumi F-4 experts out there tell me if the little lip on the front area where the tub will sit is meant to be there or should I remove? There is no groove on the tub? Difference between Hannants and Hasegawa decals... Some work started... Some priming - will use the decals... The 2 rear side wall tub parts (seen on middle of black stick next to seats) - instructions are vague - do they just line up with the edge of the tub against the bulkhead? On top of the decals?

On top of the decals? I can't see clearly. Are they the RIO's stbd side 'wall' that covers up the retracted refuel probe? If so they will sit on the top of the stbd console which won't need any decals at all.
Tim Moff
@Bertie Psmith - thanks for the help it’s parts 45/56 Sidewalls on WSO seat area - it’s how they are mounted ? ive used crude blue tac in the pics … do they line up on the outside edges of the panel or tight on the inside edge making it pointless to put the decals on? I know it’s probably probably not FG1 perfect but will do - just can’t find any pics online showing how those parts fit to the tub!
Bertie McBoatface
The port side go up against the wall of the fuselage (your first pic) and the starboard goes against the inboard side of the console (your second pic). Put the cockpit tub into the fuselage halves and fit the pieces so that they meet both. 2

Tim Moff
Moving on... Getting close to paint - as with all Tooms, need to paint behind the splitter plates/intakes before gluing them in...I will likely do the red tail/wing areas first, mask up, then then metal at the back, before I stick the nose and intakes on....

Tim Moff
defo a modular approach to the build/paint job … got the red on first before masking and sorting the nose then the intakes in that order… A masking tape ‘queen’! had to get the blue onto the fuselage behind the splitters etc … Radome and intakes on bit more work to get the radome and anti glare area painted, then sort the white out over the intakes etc ….then I need to plan the blue/white demarcation so as much if the red stripe decals go over the blue and cover the join!
theplasticsurgeon
Nice one Tim - great project, and progressing well. Strangely, my sister posted photos of the real XT597, when she found it at Kemble 2 weeks ago. Wings removed, very heavy weathering, and that strange nosecone. Still in raspberry-ripple livery without the decals down the flanks. Restore her to her glory days Tim.
