Marlin
Ohoy Vikings. It's time for a fresh update on Nordic weather, cuisine and aircraft modelling. Autumn is growing stronger for each week at the cottage. 467 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 469 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 472 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And if the ancient Farmers Almanac is correct we're in for a cold winter. Lots of rowan-berries this year. 468 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Our common BBQ site and boule court lay idle. 473 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr But there are still some boat tied up at the jetty. 474 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 475 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 476 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr But only for a week or two now, All boats must be taken up out of the lake, and we also pull the jetty out of the lake for the winter. But let's continue our trip into Nordic Cuisine, and we stay with the game meat theme. How about a oven roasted pheasant? 477 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 478 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The pheasant got stuffed with apple, tyme, rose mary, carrot, parsnip and onion. 479 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 480 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And we added some dollops of butter and a splash of Calvados before it went into the oven. 481 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 482 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And after about an hour in the oven set at 175C it was served with some roasted carrots, parsnips and potatoes. A Calvados sauce and some black/red currant yelly and apple sauce. 483 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr A small glass of Calvados ended yet another perfect dinner at the cottage. 484 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr All Saturday had been cloudy and murky, but at Midnight Axel came and said that it had cleared up. So out with the telescope to study the night sky. We got one good picture of the Moon. 485 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And our first picture of Jupiter and it's four largest moons. 486 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr But let's get back to modelling. I've found one online picture of a live 15cm rocket M/51 487 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I think looks grey, perhaps German Panzer Grau? Perhaps someone can tell me which colour will be right for this. I've glued all PE to the cockpit on the Lansen. 488 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 489 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 490 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And with the delivery of a small letter from the Large Country to the East my Quinta decals for the Norwegian F-16A I'll soon start on this build as well. 004 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 005 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 006 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've not used Quinta decals before, so it'll be fun to try them out. To be continued..... /Bosse
JeroenS
Bosse, you're living the good life eh.... And some modelling done as well 🙂 I like the outdoor pics, at least now we have an idea where you're holed up for the weekend. Do you go to the cottage in winter too? 1
Marlin
Thanks Jeroen. It's rather nice. Yes we do use the cottage during winter as well. But then just one weekend per month. And then we normally take Friday of from work, so that we can drive to the cottage during daylight hours. You have to get the fire going at once when you arrive since it takes about 4-6 hours to let it get warm enough for living conditions. We've had some winters with over a meter of snow, during thoose winters we've only gone up for the day just to look that the cottage is still standing. But thankfully we've only had two three of thoose winters during the 15 years we've had the cottage. As for living the good life, My wife Anne and I are not so much interested in going to restaurants and such, but we like to cook good food ourselves. So instead of spending €150 on a meal at a restaurant I can gladly spend the same amount buying good produce and cook a nice dinner myself. And Axel, our youngest son, loves to go there too. He's big time into Astronomy, and we are fortunate that the cottage are in a "Bortle Class 2" night sky area. That's about as dark it can get on land, Bortle 1 is out to sea, and some very remote areas. Axel got a telescope from Anne and me a few years ago, and he just loves to go outside the cottage and look at the Stars. I like it too, last winter we layed on our backs in the snow and could see the Milky Way above our heads, fantastic view. If the weather is good the coming weekend we'll go looking for Saturnus, hopefully we'll get some pictures as well. And since we're about to pass the autumnal equinox tomorrow that means the evenings are getting darker by the day. In wintertime it's pitch black at the cottage around 2-3 in the afternoon. /Bosse
Paramedic
No need to repeat myself here - but I totally agree on spending the money and having the feast at home! The cottage seems like a really nice place. Cool about the astronomy too. 1

But perhaps I can do a sort of in-build WIP on how I find them. I can't promise anything, but perhaps I'll have some pictures by next Monday. /Bosse
trickyrich
nice to see progress on the Lansen, that cockpit is looking good. Cockpits look sooooo much nicer with the Quinta upgrade, especially so with the really open ones like on the F-16. looks yummy...and no not hungry yet, only just got up, still haven't had my coffee. The area around your cottage look lovely and peaceful....... though that grey looking sky has me shivering already! You know anything under 30C and I'm cold!
Marlin
Ahoy Vikings. It's time for another update on the progress of Nordic Autumnal weater, cuisine and model building. Last weekend was a just absolutely fabously autumn weekend. Sunny and warm, by our standards, +18C and the forrest behind the cottage just ablazed in autumnal colours. 493 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And speaking of ablaze, we took care of burning some rubbish, branches and such that we didn't have time for in the spring. 494 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Taking care of a bonfire gives you a bit of a thirst. 495 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Nothing that a Bavarian Octorber Bier couldn't quench. And a bit peckish. 496 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Some sausages on the BBQ did take care of that. On the whole this was one of the better weekend weatherwise that we'd have at the cottages since summer. 497 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 498 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 499 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And you thought that Autumn in Sweden was just boring grey like a modern jet fighter.... But I have to say that we don't really get so many days like this every autumn. Saturday we had some Salmon on the BBQ, with some potato wedges and Tzatziki. 500 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr We're emptying the freezer at the cottage for the winter, so now we'll not buy any fancy food until it's empty. But that doesn't mean that we'll not eat good, I think we have some Angus burgers and some duck breast left in the freezer there. Even the best of weekends comes to an end, and at home I've been continuing on my Lansen, the Norwegian F-16 will have to wait until one of my Netz's from the F-16 STGB 2 are done. The nose wheel bay have got some paint. 501 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The ejection seats have got some more paint. 502 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I've cleaned up, and primed the 3D printed air brakes. 503 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr These looks soo much better than the PE versions I used on my first Lansen. I've started on the wings. 504 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr It'll take some work to cut the flaps away and replace them with the dropped resin set. But first you've got to glue them together with the main landing gear bay. 505 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr To be continued..... /Bosse 6
JeroenS
Looks like a great weekend Bosse! We had some very nice weather too and I elected to sit outside, in the sun, for most of the weekend. Couple of beers etc., you know the drill...
Marlin
Thanks Jeroen. Yes I'm very familiary with that drill. If we've had dinner 30 minutes earlier we could have hade it on the patio. But when the sun got behind the trees the temperature droppe rapidly. /Bosse
Marlin
Ahoy Vikings. Yesterday I did some more work on my Lansen. I've boxed in the airbrake wells with some platsicard cut to size. 506 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 507 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Unfortunatelly my conture profiler is at the cottage, so I did this old school. First in cardboard cut and trimmed, and then in plastic. And I spent most of yesterday evening to cut the flaps from the wing sections. 508 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 509 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I'll thin the wing panels a bit before I glue them together. To be continued.... /Bosse
Marlin
Ohoy Vikings. I got the wings glued together yesterday. 510 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I've got my Netz's so far built that I can now start on the Norwegian F-16. 007 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr To be continued..... /Bosse
Paramedic
Nice.. How is the A 32A kit then? Maybe the next step is the critical one? F-16 looks really nice... Don´t have any but I might have to get one..
Marlin
Thanks Tobbe. Well the A32A kit is just like your average short runt kit. No mounting tab, and a bit of flash on every part. But if you take your time and don't try to rush anything it'll buld up to a real nice model. My only problem really is that you can't build it OOB. Without the AM materials I've bought to it it wouldn't look right. Kinetics F-16's are not without issues, mainly ejection pin/tower marks that are a bit annoying. But the same goes here, take your time and it'll sure look like an F-16 in the end. /Bosse
Paramedic
I have both the A 32A and the J 32B, looked them over - and they feel "different" from the Viggen (feel more Special Hobby! Atleast those i´ve built from them) - just not come around to those yet.. I like the look of the parts, just curious how they actually pop together. Yeah, any Tarangus - you *need* Aftermarket.. IMHO..I resolved that (since I build/have alot of them) by buying less and building slower (I still do though!).. Maybe I should get a Tamiya F-16 first then? Thanks!

trickyrich
TARANGUS!!!!! There's a name to that still gives me nightmares! And yes you can't build one of their Viggen's OOB! Probably the only/main thing stopping me form building another one. She's coming along nicely Bosse and nice to see the F-16 is under way as well. Gee it looks to be a nice time of the year up there...... plus had almost forgotten about October/Octoberfest!! We'll be coming out of lockdown in Sydney in a week or so, just in time.... plus daylight saving is starting in most starts here. A couple won't because they're worried the "extra" daylight will fade the curtains!! 1
Marlin
Hi. Yesterday I had a productive day. I work both on my Netz II and on my Nordic builds. I've painted the 16 rockets for Lansen both with grey and yellow. 511 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I've started on the cockpit for the Norwegian F-16 I started with cutting and sanding off all moulded instruments from the panels. 008 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr That took about 45 minutes to do. 009 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I've also primed the cockpit parts. 010 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And my plan is now to continue with the IP and the ejection seat tonight and start painting everything. To be continued..... /Bosse

Marlin
Hi. Just a very small update. I've started to glue the fuselage halves together. 512 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr One thing I learned when I built my first Lansen is that it's easier to get the aft cockpit in place if you mount it from below when the nose section is glued. I've so far only glued the front cockpit in place and glued the nose section together. I'll put the aft cockpit and the exhaust in during this evening, and then fully close up the fuselage. To be continued..... /Bosse

Marlin
Thanks Hewy. It's very nice to be such fortunate to have this little getaway place. My favourite time there is breakfast on the patio in early summer. Very peaceful and quite, no traffic noise only birdsong in your ears. /Bosse
