Boman
Hi Bosse How is the quinta cockpit placards on the Kinetic F-16? Working well? I have in all honesty given up on the Kinetic F-16, but might give it a go again if quinta works well?
Marlin
Hi Boman. I've haven't come to that stage yet. Been to busy with other things but perhaps I'll find some time this weekend to work with them. Stay tuned. /Bosse

Marlin
Hi. This update is for you @Boman Yesterday I got to use my Quinta Studios 3D decals. The cockpit parts had been painted and I've also matt coated them. I choose a matt coat since I thought that the glue would stick better to a matt surface than a glossy one. 011 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Quinta recommends an additional adhesive to get the decals to stick to the surface. I choose regular white glue (wood glue). A small dollop of glue in a bottle cap and a tooth pick to apply the glue with. First decal in place. 012 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr This was just about the only decal I had a problem with. It's on an angled surface and I think that this is the problem. Next time I'll cut it in two so I don't have to have in under press until the white glue starts to set. The rest of the instrument panels I had no problem with. 013 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 014 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 015 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr This took about 15-20 minutes to do. And I really like how it looks. The decals has a glossy surface on all instruments faces and screens so it looks like they're covered by glass. The side panels was no problem with except the little instrument on the right front console. But I think that relates to that it's only about 1x1mm. 016 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 017 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 018 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 019 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 020 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr All side panels took about the same 15-20 minutes to get in place. And the instrument panel on an F-16 in 1/48 isn't so large. 022 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The pictures above are enlarged between 3 and 5 times to see the details better. On the whole I'd say that Qunita has gotten a new customer. I'll definitely be buying more sets of these. The are so much easier to work with than coloured PE set. And since they're in 3D they have a better depth of detail. So I guess I can say that my future builds just got €15.- more expensive. To be continued..... /Bosse

trickyrich
look really nice Bosse! Yeah PVA/white glue is the way to go, and you sort of need it to just start to dry before attaching the "decal". They may cost a wee bit, but they certainly bring the cockpit to life! Plus WAY easier to use than those PE ones!
Marlin
Thanks @trickyrich. I couldn't agree more. I'm currently compiling a shopping list of which one I need first. /Bosse
Marlin
Ahoy Vikings This weekend was the last weekend of the summer season 2021 at the cottage. We had to turn the tap water of, and drain the system for the winter. But it was that kind of weekend when the summer didn't really wanted to let go. We where met by a gorgeous sunset on Friday evening. 023 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Here in Sweden the hockey season is in full swing, and Friday evening my team Väsby had a game against Segeltorp which I didn't want to miss. A beer and some sausage are nice to have when watching an game. 024 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 025 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr We don't have WIFI at the cottage, so we had to manage with the pad. A bit small screen, but it works. And it was a good game with my team Väsby winning with 9-1. On Saturday we had the most fantastic autumn weather you could wish for, so we went for a walk. 026 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 027 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 028 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr If any of you Vikings wonder where the Tree of Life - Yggdrasil is, I think that my neighbor Lasse can put in a claim on owning it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yggdrasil 029 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr A very nice, and I think a couple of hundred years old Ash tree. If the ancient Farmer's almanac is correct we're in for a cold winter. 030 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr The rowan trees and the Swedish Whitebeams are full of red berries. The lake is desolate now when it's autumn. 031 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 032 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 033 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Since this weekend was the last on the Summer season we put something nice on the BBQ. I had two duck breast left in the freezer. 034 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And one last bottle of a very tasty Belgian cider. 035 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Time to light the BBQ. 036 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 037 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 038 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Which turned into a very tasty meal. 039 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And a small serving of Tiramisu for dessert. 040 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Since we had such fantastic weather Axel went out Stargazing in the evening and got some fine pictures of the Moon. 041 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 042 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 043 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 044 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Nice craters. We also saw Jupiter. 045 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr But the thing that amazed me the most was the Pleiades/The Seven Sisters. 046 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr This open star cluster is 444 light years away from earth, and I'm amazed what you can see with just a beginners telescope with a cellphone attached to it. Well I guess this thread is supposed to be about modelling as well. At the moment I'm currently building as many sub assemblies on my Norwegian F-16 I can. 047 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr To be continued..... /Bosse

trickyrich
... and here i was about to say "where's my Bosse food instalment'! Gosh it looks so nice up there, wow you are lucky........ not so sure about the Beer Sausage cocktail!!!!! The duck on the other hand! Forgot to take photo's but just had "Friday bubbles" with fresh Tiger Prawns and Coffee Bay Pacific Oysters (the best you can get down here in my opinion) sitting watching the sun set.
Paramedic
lol, yeah - looks weird, the beer and sausages. But then again, if it is a decent sausage.. (Såg ut som billig sketkorv först! ) Reminded me to go get a few beer for tonight.. I already commented the other pics elsewhere but I love the builds.
Marlin
Thanks Guys. I don't buy cheap sausages. This one was a "Cognacsmedvurst" - a juniper smoked cognac flavored soft salami is I think the best translation I can come up with. I've never seen it outside Sweden, so I guess it's a local thing. Tiger Prawns and Oyster Well that would be something. I haven't a clue of what we're cooking this weekend. No BBQ since where staying at home this weekend. We'll just have to wait and see. And I'll have some more progress pics of my builds as well. /Bosse

PattheCat
Thanks for the pics, that's what I call keeping us up to date. Not used Quinta decals yet but I bought a set at the same time as a Zvezda 1/72 su-27 UB, at about the same price as the kit. So thanks to you I know now it's a good investment and I won't need to get the CA out as often. Enjoy the food, drink and fresh air ... and modelling too, of course. Cheers. Marlin
Ahoy Vikings. My A32A Lansen has been staring at me for a month now, since I was forced to break it up again. Unfortunately the fuselage halves slipped during gluing and I got a very bad seam. So the only solution was to break it apart and start over. But now I'm ready to take it on again. But first some repairs are needed. 514 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr One of the PE side consoles had to be re-glued, and the laminated IP also came apart. On Saturday we tried a new, for us, fish, a Gilt-head Bream. 515 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr We seasoned it with just salt, pepper, parsley and a dollop of butter. And cooked it in the oven at 225C for about 12 minutes. 516 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Very tasty, and it's a rather fat fish so I guess I'll be putting some on the BBQ next season. Yesterday Sunday I visited my local Toyota garage to put some new studded winter tyres on my new Toyota RAV4. My old Toyota Avensis Verso died on me two weeks ago. 227 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Not cheap, but now I'll feel much safer for the winter. And when that was done I did some more work on my Norwegian F-16 The main landing gear bay have been glued in place. 048 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And some back dating, two flare buckets have been puttied over. 049 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Some black paint on the IP shroud. 050 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And I've glued the stick and throttle in the cockpit. 051 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And glued the cockpit to the upper fuselage. 052 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And the last thing I did yesterday was to glue the fuselage together. 053 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I'll have the usual nasty seam to fix in the nose section. So I guess that is what I'll be doing next on this one. To be continued..... /Bosse
Marlin
Hi. Just a quick update. As suspected, I had to putty the whole front fuselage seam 054 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr On my Netz II I used liquid sprue, but that took a full week to harden. So this time I've used Perfect Plastic Putty to see if that will save me some time. To be continued.,,,, /Bosse
Marlin
Ahoy Vikings. I've done some more work on my Norwegian F-16. The nose panels are in place. 055 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 056 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And since this is a Norwegian F-16 I've added the search light in the nose. The Norwegian call this "Russelyset" As I've said in my Netz II build the nose panels are a bit too small. 057 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I think this relates to that Kinetic did a new lower fuselage to correct the faulty profile their first run of this kit have. But if you glue the panels to the upper part to the nose section you can align the panels so that they follow the nose contour, but you'll have this millimeter wide gap at the bottom. 058 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr And then you just fill the gaps with a suitable piece of plasticard. 059 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I drenched the strips with Tamiya Extra Thin and will let it set for a day before I'll start to cut away the excess plastic. To be continued..... /Bosse
PattheCat
I had heard mitigated comments about the Kinetic F-16A so I skipped that one and bought 1/72 Revell (not built one yet). Doesn't seem bad, though and you're certainly doing a good job to put it right, Bosse. Cheers. Pat

Marlin
Ahoy Vikings. Yesterday I did some more work on my Norwegian F-16. It's time to get the intake in place. This step is one that always troubles me. I've found out that the problem lays with the forward bulkhead in the main landing gear bay. 063 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr On the inside of the intake there is a slot where the bulkhead are supposed to be. But if you follow Kinetics instructions the bulkhead won't fit in the slot. 061 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr I tested with expanding the slot all way. 062 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr But that didn't work, but the bulkhead came loose when I was trying to fit it. 064 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr So lets test and see if you add the bulkhead to the intake first instead of the landing gear bay, Success. 065 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Almost there. 066 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr 067 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr Put some pressure to it and glue it in place. 069 by Bosse Persson, on Flickr So now I found an alternative way to build Kinetics F-16.
