nimrod54
With a poor record of completing Blitzbuild entries, I thought that I would give myself a fighting chance of finishing something this time around, so I picked up this laser cut kit which should be easy to assemble and doesn't require paint. I give you the Musical Control Tower. I don't know what I will do with it when it's done but I should have some fun building it. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr See you over the weekend John

Foxbat
Wow, that's a PROPER Blitzbuild entry Looking forwaard to seeing this one come together. Andy
Dandie Dinmont
Excellent! I started work on a similar kit (though from a different manufacturer) here but I haven’t done much with it for a while because sticking splintered cocktail sticks into the ball of my thumb stopped being fun after a while. I’m a crack-handed fool though and I’m sure you’ll have fun making this and it’ll turn out great. Looking forward to seeing the finished result! jean
Hi John, now this is something groovy! And impressive, with far too many toothed wheels for someone like me! And awfully dangerous! Beware of the chocking hazard. Age has nothing to do with it! It will be fun to watch. JR
nimrod54
I made a start on this one a little before 1:00pm today. the kit contains four laser cut sheets and Sheet A has all the parts for the sound box and holds the music chimes. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr About 50mins later I had worked my way through the sheet and this is what I had. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr Sheet B contained the closure for the sound box and several gears, not many of which can be seen once everything is closed in. This was quite a tricky stage and took some time to sort out, I had to adjust the parts several times to check that the gears meshed together correctly and by late afternoon the sound box and drive assembly was complete. That was it for the afternoon and it was time to fire up the BBQ for something to eat. by John L, on Flickr
nimrod54
Back to it later in the evening and it was time to get on with Sheet C which holds the tower parts, I started by putting together the parts that raise and lower the aircraft and these were then fitted to three of the tower sides and after adding some more gears the sides were mounted to the base. Then I assembled the lattice sections of the tower and fixed those to the base, all of this was held together with the top section of the tower and mast, by now it was little after 21:00 and that job completed the work I had planned for today. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr The job for tomorrow will be to assemble the three bi-planes and fix those to the arms on the tower. All of the parts for those are on Sheet D. by John L, on Flickr See you tomorrow. John

nimrod54
I started the next phase of build at around noon today and around 1hr later had finished the first biplane. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr I thought that I would document the build steps for the second aircraft which starts by adding a tailplane to the fuselage section. by John L, on Flickr After that the lower fuselage formers were pressed in place followed by a couple of metal rod stringers and a final former which holds those in place. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr The next stage was the addition of two fuselage side pieces, they also formed more of the tailplane, and that was followed by the upper fuselage formers. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr You are warned in the instructions that the next part to go on is easily broken, so I took extra care when pressing that home. It helps to form the cowling and has struts and attachment points for the upper and lower wings. by John L, on Flickr The parts below form a small sub-assembly which becomes the attachment point for the finished aircraft to the Control Tower. I then added the remainder of the parts that form the cowling and that completed the fuselage section by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr Next it was time to add the wings, struts and undercarriage parts followed by the cylinder and propeller, and with that the second bi-plane was finished. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr By now I had progressed well down the learning curve and the third build took me around 40mins to put together, so here is 'A' Flight lined up and ready to go. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr On the test flight the movement is a little jerky, but it seems to be at one point so it may still be binding up slightly and that is after extensive testing during the build. It has been something different for me though and lot of fun to put together. I'll take some more photos for the gallery shortly. John
