Sabrejet
Today at Fairford, Lockheed U-2S 80-1085 carried unique tail art to commemorate the life of Capt David ‘Hawk’ Hawkens, who was killed in the crash of U-2R 68-10338 at Fairford 26 years ago, on 29 August 1995. Apologies for the quality of photos (hopefully someone will have better images); a function of a dull morning and a not-too-good camera (operator). The tail art was carried both sides and read, “Capt David “Hawk” Hawkens July 12 1960 – August 29 1995”. The interchangeable ASARS nose also carried a sharkmouth + fist marking on both sides. I expect the tail marking to be gone in the next few days. Edited August 27, 2021 by Sabrejet 3
spruecutter96
Very cool to see a U2 with special markings, even if they are just chalked on. The grinning mouth and eyes really look like they belong on the airframe. Thanks for sharing with us. Chris.
