Airfix 1/76 25Pdr Field Gun & Quad ++finished++

Here's my offering - a kit I first knocked up in a Saturday afternoon 50 years ago, I would guess.

This is one of Airfix's Vintage Classics - the plastic is a lighter green and a little softer than the original I think.

The moulds look to have stood the test of time quite well - a touch of flash here and there. Not too bothered about how accurate this little fella is, hopefully it will fit together ok. If it goes ok I might have a bash at getting some glazing in.

Nice. I'm building a similar Airfix kit for Less Than a Tenner GB and these kits still go together very well.

That's good to know - I'll give it a look to pick up a few tips 😉

Off we go! Breakfast is Frank Cooper's Fine Cut marmalade on sourdough for me, (and a sneaky slice of Damson frangipane) with a mug of Earl Grey, and ginger and lime for the better half. I'll set about the Airfix plastic in a jiffy.

No music as every one else is asleep, but I'll be listening to the cricket later on.

Phew! Airfix probably should have tidied the mould up a touch on this one, I reckon it must have paid for itself by now? Lots of tidying to do, but it is still a charming little kit.

The gun doesn't look great, I may put a brass tube on the front as a replacement.

Anyhows, it looks like it might go together in a fashion, four pairs of hands needed I reckon.  I need another cuppa before putting any glue on it. 😀

Time for a bite to eat. 🥗 The body parts are together - not a bad fit at all. The limber is together, and the tidying up continues. What a nice little kit.

That's not a proper breakfast, nothing has been deep fried !

Great to see this one underway.

Cheers Pat

No deep-fried, battered Weetabix down here me old china, we are soft Southerners. 😀

Lunch was a salad with beetroot juice, yummy.

Here's what's left on the sprue pretty much. I shan't be using the gun team, just the driver.

More cleaning up of parts to come I think, and some time spent on the gun might be worth it.

Some parts primed, and whilst they are drying, a bit more cleaning. I had forgotten how tedious cleaning up tyres could be when the mould isn't aligned. Time for a short break to chill before ploughing on.

Your diet is far too healthy, that can't be good for you !

It's part of my treatment for an unusual condition - biplaneriggingaphobia....

It can also be cured by imbibing regular amounts of Islay single malts. 😉

...and that's me done for today. The Quad has been tidied up a little, mudguards added to the front, and lots of little bits tidied, and ready for a bit of primer tomorrow. I think the gun will need some more fettling - it's probably the worst part of the kit.

Time for a break - everything tidied up and this little fella looks about right for a coat of purest green.

..and let's get going again. The primed parts look ok. The Halfords primer dries quickly enough to let it be worked over within a couple of hours warm weather, and can be left to harden for longer - but this is a Blitzbuild!

Green is on some of the pieces, and some brown on the seats & driver. Let that lot dry tonight whilst I work on the 25 pounder. Curry for nosebag tonight I reckon - but back for more fettling later. 😀

Plumped for the curry with a bottle of Aspall's organic cider - lovely it was. Here are the bits left to play with - mostly for the 25 Pounder. The carpet monster made off with one of the wheel nuts for the limber, so that will be scratched up as well.

That'll do for tonight - a new barrel for the 25 Pdr, and some progress on the carriage.
