Glad to hear you're recovering Thank you all very much for the well-wishes Been busy decalling this monster kit: A lot of stencils! These are from a Warbird Decals set for the F-4C/D so hopefully they are mostly common. The early IAF Kurnass appears to have been covered in stencils. The main decals came from Sky's Decals set for Israeli Kurnass, which unfortunately was all for the post-1970s versions, therefore all in Hebrew and with the later appearance of the jets so I took what I could. There were some problems with the decals - first the 201 Squadron insignia - the decal set was mirrored left and right, whereas the 'point' should always face to the right 😠 so I had to raid another decal set to replace them 😠 The next issue was there weren't enough numerals to do 616 - it only gave two of each! Luckily the 9 is an exact inverse of the six so all was well! And then, the national Star of David insignia were very undersized (1/48, I think ) so, another spare set got raided! The good news is all the decals went on beautifully so that was a headache avoided. Cheers, Alan
Alan P
This might be a case of spot the difference, but I have applied several different coloured washes... My philosophy for applying wear effects is less is more! Little historical note: although this aircraft was credited with two Syrian MiG-21 kills during YKW, the second was claimed on the day of the mission I am representing with this build, so a little artistic licence was used to add the second kill marking! Alan P
Cheers guys! I forgot to post this earlier: I realised I painted the black radome back to the wrong panel line so had to move it forward one line. This meant I had to paint all the camouflage colours again, including the blue underside which I'd mixed specially and had none left 😬 So now it has the authentic look of having a field replacement for the nose ring aft of the radome I'm my own worst enemy in this hobby, I swear

There is something very cool about the long nose Phantom isnt there. Well done mate, keep it up. I am plugging away on the belly corrections on my one at the moment, the WH engine insert has some issues LOL (maybe it's me??) Cheers

Ray Hi Ray, I used Microset and Microsol for the stencils, diluted Klear for the bigger decals. The gloss coat was AK Gauzy Intermediate, which is one of the best modelling things I've ever used. The flat coat will be Xtracrylix Flat, besides Testors Dullcote is the best matt finish I've found so far. Thanks for the nice reply as well 👍

Thom216
If there's still time, maybe you should do a different camo pattern, or even NMF just for the replaced ring? Either way, this is looking hot!

Either way, this is looking hot! Nah, it's good as it is. Don't want to do MORE work Flat coat and some very minimal wear and tear applied - these aircraft were very well maintained and looked pretty clean from above! Added the red edges to the flaps/ailerons and some grease stains around the forward panels. Some oil/grease streaks around the rudder and flap actuators, plus some greasy handprints around some of the most common access panels I wasn't sure about the paintjob, but with the flat coat it's really blended the colours and stencils together. I'm happy! Then there's all the bits! I haven't even started the bombs yet! Particularly pleased with the landing gear... ...especially the nose. (I doubt they had creep marks on the nose tyres but it adds a bit of colour!) There's the gear on. I made a big mistake fitting the gear, the nose leg should be fitted before the nose assembly! I had a real job trying to force it all into place Note to self: read the instructions The auxiliary engine doors and ailerons are also fitted. The screws for the main gear also couldn't fit properly because the Eduard detail on the legs interferes with the screwdriver line, so that went poorly as well. Still, At least it's done. Now, on to the bombs... Cheers, Alan

Thanks 2LH, it doesn't make the best joint without the screws, but plenty of CA and accelerator has hopefully done the trick. Brilliant mate...lovin it Thanks very much Anthony, really good to hear from you on this, although the Tamiya errors must make you wince I'm just trying to grab the odd hour here and there to finish this by the deadline... Bangy things! Really happy with the bombs. The lads at Videoaviation know what we 1/32 punters want and boy, do they deliver She got legs! Nose gear was a bit of a struggle but it fits at last. Close up of the front fuselage, and a reminder how much more there is to go on this model Nozzles fitted - Tamiya's worst blunder on these kits, they look woefully small I do wish I'd fixed them with the Reskit or Eduard Brassin set now 😠 (Aires are rubbish btw, they just replace the kit ones without correcting the size) The Revell is better proportioned. Revell's back end +Tamiya's front end would be the only way to get a reasonable long-nose Phantom in 1/32. Looking more like it now. Still have the cockpit and seats to finish, as well as the canopies (which I hate doing! Aircraft canopies are what drove me into shipbuilding 7 years ago ) One more: (at risk of making every single post on this page look like the same thing!) Cheers everyone for your generous words and encouraging comments so far! Alan
