John Masters
This is fun. A Fokker Dr.1 flown by the French as a training tool. Unarmed, of course. This is actually an Eduard kit, so the quality is very high, reboxed by SabreKit, another Czech company, or maybe the same Czech company but a subsidiary? Who cares. I have built this kit before and it is flawless and absolutely tiny when completed, and the Dr.1 was quite small to begin with. I'll jump in soon enough! --John
Wez
I think @Marklo is doing the same subject (or similar), funny how that happens! It will be interesting to see how they come out. Good luck John

Afaik a number of DR1s were captured but all had similar paint schemes. I have quite a few builds to progress before I get to this one in earnest. John Masters
Ok @Marklo @JOCKNEY and @Wez...there is something to be said about building an Eduard kit. A confidence exists that I know it will come together easily and cleanly. I will treat this as a 'Weekender' and, I hope, whip it out right quick. --John
2996 Victor
Great start, John, I'm looking forward to seeing this come together! Great subject matter, too. Cheers, Mark

I can’t but agree, and some of the time it is a pleasure to put together a really nice kit, but tbh if that was all I built I’d probably get bored in the long run On a semi related note look what I got for under a tenner, as far as I can tell there isn’t a lot missing I also got a cheap 1/48 P47 with no instructions and a 1/48 F100 missing a few parts, well pleased Edited November 4, 2021 by Marklo

John Masters
It seems like I have my mojo back. I had forgotten how much I enjoy the Eduard Dr.1 in the Gentleman's Scale. It is the best, by far and hands down. It reminds me also that I should build Lothar's machine. Poor Lothar...always flying in the shadow... --John
John Masters
I did a little work early AM and some a little later. At this stage I am ready for primer on the fuselage, and then some paint. Those closeup shots always point out the little bits that need cleaning up... I gave the Oberursal a bit of aluminum, the prop some light tan, then some wood, and decaled the rudder. I think I'll go for Olive Drab for the fuselage. The French repainted it and they didn't use PC10. The blue cowling and wheels will be a colourful addition! --John
John Masters
I mixed a bit of Sky Blue and Prussian Blue to get the cowling and wheel colours correct, or at least Bright Blue. The Olive Drab is Medium Olive Green and I had a tough time time getting the airbrush to cooperate. I'll do a bit of masking today and apply the Sky Blue underside. --John
John Masters
The underside is painted, the axle airfoil is painted, the wheels have been masked an given a medium grey for the rubber...prop boss is brass... Almost there! Decals tonight. --John
John Masters
Decals on. Not including the rudder, there are only the four French roundels. Once again, I should have painted the rudder. Im not happy wth it and I am not up to re-doing it. What little rigging there is will happen today, some slight paint touch-ups, perhaps a little dust on the wheels and underside, some oil stains. --John
Grandboof
Another blink and you missed it . Looks great . Glad your spray gun decided to co-operate . Martin H

Coming in under the wire...for me anyway. This one is finished and in the gallery. I have become distracted again by real-life situations. A shipping container arrived from the USA last week containing all my furniture , books, and a couple pf boxes of built models that I had stored there for the last 6-10 years. Some repairs. Some binned. My Blau Vogel from CMR survived and is repairable... 50% dd not make the 'repair/renovate' list for various reasons. In any case, the Fokker is in the gallery... --John 1
2996 Victor
The Dr.I is looking great, John, and very unusual! A worthy addition to your collection, too. The Blau Vogel is lovely. Such a shame about the damage, but it looks minor and easily repairable. Is there a WiP from when you built it? Cheers, Mark
John Masters
Thanks @2996 Victor. The Blau Vogel was built during a period of time when I hung around The Aerodrome website and when they had a WiP/RFI thread.
Andwil
Oh dear! I can imagine how your heart would have sunk when you opened that box. The new DR.1 is nice though, even if a little strange in French markings. Those rudder decals never really work that well do they. AW

No...and I never learn that lesson either, it seems. Thanks though. The builds I will be able to salvage are the best interns of quality and construction anyway, and the rarest. Funnily, my pride and joy, the Pegasus Albatros C.II that I worked so hard on, came through unscathed, as did quite a few D.VII builds. Those did not make the grade are not missed.
