Call me crazy...AZ Model Emil, Romania...

Recommended Posts

Ok.  This is my little scheme.  I am off-island from tomorrow morning until late Tuesday night (24th).  That means I have tonight, and four more days to build this one final 109 for this GB.  No fancy camo, nothing weird.  Straight ahead, green and grey Romanian bird from 1942.  I'll build Yellow 64 because it has the cool Romanian markings and graffiti.

It's and AZ model, so the sprue and instructions are almost everywhere you look.  All the same.

'Nella'...

I think I can do this...

Ok.  apologies for skipping some steps, and not photographing, but I have built so any of these AZ 109 kits that it becomes a bit rote, if you know what I mean.

What you see is the cockpit pieces assembled, the interior painted, the vents in the air coolers in the wings glued in place and the exhaust manifolds glued also.

I have also assembled the wing pieces.  I will close up the fuselage before I go the bed tonight and attach the wings tomorrow morning before I go so that when I return I can mask the canopy, attach that and give the aircraft some primer.

Hi John,

I love it when I meet a fan of Stakanov!

Sleep is such a waste of time, I am sure you can scrounge a few more hours here and there!

I am fully supporting your effort, and like they say: Who dares, win.

Great show.

The pieces fit together pretty well.  There are some small gaps to fill with PPP along the wing roots and on the underside, but for now I will leave it until Wednesday...

You've done a lot of work in a short space of time so we've every faith in your abilities to get this one done within the GB timescale John. Even more so if I can gain a wee extension from our magnanimous leader @Enzo Matrix :D

Oho!  Home again, home gain, jiggly-jig...

I see that our most benevolent Moderator has extended the deadline.  All that means is that I'll finish this Romanian Emil and have to start another...probably the new Eduard kit.  I doubt I'll get it over the line, but I'll try.

I have masked the canopy and attached it.  It really looks better than this photo.  More even certainly.  Strange...

...and given it a light coat of primer.

Hi John,

very fast and very good!

And having only the RLM 71 to paint makes it even faster!

Great show.

Indeed!  Thank you @jean No splinter camo or splotchy areas.  In fact, with the RLM71 topside and the RLM65 beneath, it looks very Eastern European, not German at all.

An sometimes I airbrush well.  Sometimes I don't.  I remembered tonight that 'less is more' with the airbrush.

Very nice paint job, congrats!

And yes, it looks subtly different from the run of the mill Luftwaffe Emil.

Thanks @Col. Even without the extension, I think I'd be in good shape...

Decals going on...

And done!  A striking looking aircraft for sure.  Not Luftwaffe at all...

I'll let the solvent dry thoroughly and give it some stain.  Then a bit of dust and smoke. Wheels, trim tab weights, radio wire...Tomorrow night?

I love the way Florywash works.  Not only does it fill those panel lines but the nature of the fine clay grit actually burnishes the surface of the model as one carefully wipes it off.  I use damp kitchen paper and ear buds.  I use a lighter wash on the darker areas, darker on the lighter.  The Grime wash is excellent for undersurfaces.

Subtlety can be achieved.
