time to add more info.

as said before, this will be Wulfs aircraft from the comic 'The Grand Duke'

A nice looking comic, a bit overly dramatic and boobies all over the place (not a bad thing, look at the authors FB at what I assume to be his wife)

but it is the drawings that make it, I would love to be able to afford some of the artwork, really it is that good!

Curiously the black tailed aircraft is only ever shown from the right.

though there are pics of what I assume to be an earlier iteration from the left.

Bozo, those are indeed some very impressive drawings. No doubt in the comic there is an explanation as to why the tail is black.

Other Aircraft are shown with a swastika so it can't be that. More pictures would be very welcome.

The black tail is because his daughter died in bombardments.

Wulf (the main character) is not a Nazi and the death of his daughter was the last straw.

Quick story recap Wulf german and Lilya russian are star crossed lovers who keep bumping in to each other during the war.

They finally end up on transport to siberia.......together.....

  • 3 weeks later...

Experimenting with thinning the edges of the wheel bays......might have made it easier for myself doing this BEFORE closing the wings....🙄

Damaged some of the opposing edges scraping the other, practice kit indeed.

Does look better though....

I think the word I'm looking for is incorrigible.......😔

the plan was to treat this as an Eduard weekend kit, no additions other that interior PE......

now look what is happening.....

more pics of stuff getting out of hand........

Thinned the edges of the shell shutes

added some sheet to fill the hole at the front of the wing.

20210916-101351.jpg

The gun bay inserts will be repurposed as chute parts/interest (will be mounted upside down)

20210916-101533.jpg

ribbing, which wil be only juuuuuust visible with an aileron in.....🤷‍♂️

20210916-101437.jpg

The fuselage edges are thick enough to make a groove for the canopy, which means filling the groove on the rear deck.

20210916-101450.jpg

fitted the gun cowl, did some damage to the edges on purpose and dimpled the metal here and there. No great effort was made for a perfect fit, as this was opened and closed quite a lot.(even bent up one of the corners!)

Actually made progress (pics to follow soon)

Could use some discussion on the colours though.

Made the decision to follow the comic, but with RLM colours.

Wing tops:

RLM 81 (not the Xtracolor version though)

RLM 74 or 75

Wing bottom:

Front part RLM 02 maybe?

RLM 75 as on top?

Control surfaces RLM 76

Fuselage top:

RLM 81

RLM 83

Fuselage side/bottom:

RLM 84 (I like the Ammo version for this)

Power egg: RLM 83 top

                      RLM 76 bottom

This makes it a VERY colourful puppy!

What do you guys think

For undersides I would consider bare metal aft of the main spar with 76 ailerons, possibly also flaps.  However, the JAPO books make it clear that there was a lot of variation in time which they link with the factory, and individual blocks.  If you are going by the comic then this will be more information than you need.

Forgot to mention the bare metal part, but that will be there!
