Now when I painted this I did paint the main gear bays aluminum, anyone know if thats correct ? Please feel free to ask questions, post comments or add thoughts. Dennis Hello I pretty sure that the wheel wells were the same colour as the the underside of the D520. I am deeply sorry to say that now and I haven't seen during the build but the wheel well does not have such ribs inside. You can check Here So before painting in light blue grey maybe you could adjust a little. Patrick

So will most likely just leave it.
opus999
Wow! That is actually quite striking. I like it! I'm somewhat ignorant about free French markings -- sometimes I see the crosses in red and sometimes in blue. Was there a reason for the different colors?

Ive had the same question, I've seen a number of answers. Red for some units that converted from Vichy and Blue for those that formed with the RAF. Another answer says that it was up to the unit commander. A third that I’ve seen was that they started as red and shortly after switched to blue. I wonder if @TEMPESTMK5, @Troy Smith, or @Graham Boak might have a better answer ? If not maybe they know who might. Either way these are the only decals with the cross of Lorraine so couldn't change them. But would be good to know the answer for future reference.
Graham Boak
Have a go at the search routine: there was a recent thread on the subject which quoted directives and (in my opinion) sorted it out. But yes you will see either colour used, at least early on. I'd rather not stick my neck out as to which was both more common and correct, for fear of memory fade, nor willing to dig out all the references and retype them - sorry about that, but it is all here. By the way, it is just Dewoitine. 1

Best Regards Patrice Hello Patrice, yes I was going to go with the Chamois/buff color originally. However found some photo’s that seemed to lean more to blue than sand color for #397. The other of the two #302 is either sand or two tone but my decals were for #397.

Best Regards Patrice Im sorry for the misunderstanding they're not new photo’s but the same ones. But when comparing to other objects in the photo #397 seemed to not match to something that should be khaki/sand colored. I will D/M you with the photo’s and my thoughts. TEMPESTMK5
Good afternoon Dennis I don’t think there are any color photos of the aircraft you are building so nobody can tell that you are wrong and as far as I am concerned I think that it looks very nice in blue .. Best Regards Patrice
jean
Hi Dennis, this 520 looks just fine. Why not blue? And as we all agree, it is your build and your decision! Congrats for a great build! JR

Corsairfoxfouruncle
Hello everyone… Satin coat and weathering done. Need to re-polish the starboard canopy as something marred it. Once done its just landing gear, antenna’s, and photo’s.
