Airfix 1/72 MiG 15

Recommended Posts

This is the newer kit from 2009, not the old hollow / see through one from 1958

Those who know all about MiG 15s say there are shape problems with this kit. Thats somat I know nowt about.

The only changes I made were some after-market main wheels and put in the landing light under the port wing root (which I made a wee bit too big) and the two clear covers at the rear underneath of the fuselage and I added a piece of plastic tube to deepen the exhaust and added the pitot on the wing from wire, Airfix leaves this out completely

I choose the Russian markings, which by coincidence are the exact same markings Hobbyboss give for their MiG 15

If it is bigger than all the other kits then they are under scale.

I measured this just now, as best as I could,

Wing span = 14 cm  x 72 = 10.08m  Real MiG = 10.085m

Length = 14.7 cm  x 72 = 10.58m  Real MiG = 10.102m

So it is slightly longer, maybe, But its hardly in the realms of a 'box scale' difference

Does the fact that it is larger than ALL other 1/72 scale MIG-15s worry anyone ?.

Not in the RFI section. If you look at the rules pinned to this section it says:

"The critiquing/advice is meant for the skill set of the builder, not the accuracy of the build and is meant to encourage development of those skill sets and the sharing of ideas."

There are other more relevant forum sections for discussing the accuracy of a kit.

In fact there's already a thread about the Airfix MiG-15 here: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/58911-the-new-airfix-mig-15-so-whats-wrong-with-it/
